Chapter Five: A Meeting of Eras

The sun was beginning its slow descent behind the towers of Hogwarts, casting the castle in a warm, golden glow. In the Headmaster's office, however, the mood was anything but warm. The older generation, now donning their new identities, stood in a semicircle around Dumbledore's desk, their expressions a mix of curiosity and tension. They had been briefed on their situation, given new names, and returned to their original houses. But now, they were about to meet three students from this future—students who unknowingly held the key to keeping their secret safe.

Dumbledore stood at his desk, his hands resting lightly on the surface as he looked over the group. "Before we begin, I must remind you all of the importance of maintaining your new identities. The students you are about to meet know nothing of your true origins, and it must remain that way."

The group nodded, each member steeling themselves for the interaction ahead. They had all agreed to the plan, understanding the necessity of the charade, but the reality of it still felt surreal.

A knock at the door interrupted Dumbledore's thoughts, and he raised his hand, beckoning the newcomers inside. The door creaked open, and three students entered—Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Pansy Parkinson. They were an odd trio, standing side by side, with Hermione's keen eyes, Ron's cautious gaze, and Pansy's guarded expression.

"Please, come in," Dumbledore said warmly, gesturing for them to join the group. The three students approached, curiosity evident on their faces as they took in the unfamiliar witches and wizards standing before them.

"These are some new students," Dumbledore began, his tone casual but deliberate. "They have transferred from another magical institution, and I thought it would be helpful if you could give them a tour of Hogwarts, answer any questions they might have, and help them acclimate to our school. This is Aaron," he said, nodding towards James, "Peter," indicating Remus, "Alex," referring to Sirius, "Rosemary," for Lily, "Timothée," for Regulus, "Andrew," for Barty, "Marcus," for Evan, "Venus," for Marlene, "Bailey," for Dorcas, and finally, "Mary," for Alice.

Hermione, ever the polite one, stepped forward first. "Welcome to Hogwarts. I'm Hermione Granger, and these are my friends, Ron Weasley and Pansy Parkinson. We'd be happy to show you around."

The older generation nodded in acknowledgment, each of them silently absorbing the moment. This was the future—the world their sacrifices had helped create, yet it was a world they barely recognized.

Pansy, her arms crossed and her expression somewhat skeptical, tilted her head as she looked at the group. "So, where did you all transfer from?" she asked, her tone more curious than confrontational.

"A small, private institution," Remus—now Peter—answered smoothly. His voice was calm and steady, a stark contrast to the tension that had gripped the room earlier. "Not too different from Hogwarts, but we were eager to experience something new."

"Well, you've certainly picked an interesting time to transfer," Ron said, a hint of a grin on his face. "Things have been a bit... eventful around here."

"Oh?" Lily—Rosemary—replied, her eyes sparkling with genuine interest. "In what way?"

Hermione exchanged a glance with Ron and Pansy before answering. "Well, there's always something happening at Hogwarts, but this year has been particularly... intense. You'll see what we mean soon enough."

The group nodded, understanding the unspoken weight behind her words. They were all too familiar with intense times at Hogwarts—just in a different era.

As the students prepared to leave Dumbledore's office, Hermione paused, glancing back at the older generation with a curious expression. "Forgive me if this sounds strange, but have we met before? You all seem so... familiar."

James—Aaron—smiled, his eyes twinkling with the mischief he had never quite outgrown. "Perhaps in another life."

Hermione smiled back, sensing the jest but still feeling an odd sense of recognition. "Perhaps."

As the group began to file out of the office, Pansy spoke up, her tone less guarded than before. "So, what are you all most interested in seeing at Hogwarts? The castle has a lot of history, you know. Maybe we can start with the Great Hall."

Marlene—Venus—answered, her voice light. "The Great Hall sounds perfect. I've always been interested in seeing it for myself. We've heard stories."

Ron chuckled. "You'll definitely be impressed. It's one of the most amazing parts of the castle."

As they continued their conversation, Hermione couldn't help but ask, "So, what houses did you all end up in?"

"We were sorted back into our original houses," Sirius—Alex—replied smoothly. "Just the way it should be."

"Original houses?" Pansy asked, slightly puzzled.

"From our previous school," Regulus—Timothée—clarified, his voice measured. "The system is similar."

Ron nodded, satisfied with the explanation, though Hermione still looked slightly unconvinced.

Before they could leave, Hermione paused again, glancing at Dumbledore. "Professor, I've been meaning to ask... Do you know if we'll ever get to meet the older versions of ourselves? I mean, I've always wondered what we'll be like in the future."

Dumbledore smiled, a twinkle in his eye. "Ah, Miss Granger, the future is a curious thing. I believe you will find that the best way to know your future self is to continue to grow and learn, as you are doing now. The rest will come in time."

Hermione nodded, accepting the answer even though it didn't satisfy her curiosity. The older generation exchanged subtle glances, understanding the delicate balance they needed to maintain.

As the group finally left Dumbledore's office, leading the older generation on a tour of the castle, the portraits on the walls watched them with a mixture of amusement and intrigue. None could deny the tension in the air, but there was also a sense of excitement—of possibility.

The older generation—now Aaron, Peter, Alex, Rosemary, Timothée, Andrew, Marcus, Venus, Bailey, and Mary—followed the younger trio, their eyes scanning the familiar yet changed surroundings of Hogwarts. They had a mission ahead of them, one that required patience and caution.

But as they walked through the halls, blending in with the students of this time, they couldn't help but feel a connection to the school, to its history—both their own and the one still being written.

And as they began their new journey, they knew that their past was not just behind them, but all around them, hidden in plain sight.
