Once upon a time in the kingdom of Berbrooke, there lived a king and queen that were told that they shall never conceive. Although devastated, that did not stop them from still trying over and over again.
Until one day the queen ran to her king and exclaimed, "Oh, Guildford! You'll never believe this but I am with child!" Full of surprise and joy, Guildford looked up from his desk and ran to his wife at once. "We have beat the odds haven't we Eliza?" he said with the biggest grin on his face.
And so the happy couple had a baby by the beautiful name of Charlotte. They waited until their baby girl was born and then announced unto the whole kingdom that they had an heir.
All was well again in the kingdom. Charlotte was destined to live a life full of love and joy with anything she could ever want at her command. Her parents made sure that their princess was constantly attended to and had everything one could wish for.
For Eliza loved her miracle child with everything she had and Guildford, well he loved her just the same. Life seemed perfect in the kingdom.
Until one night when Charlotte was only 11 months old, she was stolen from her very own bed chamber. Whisked away by some cloaked figure never to be seen again.
The king and queen were devastated when they found out. The king ordered the entire royal guard not to rest until she was found. But they had no luck. Charlotte was gone without a trace.
By the queens orders, the palace hired the best detective in the land. Although he hadn't landed a case in years, the queen was assured that he was the best in the land. And so he was hired.
The detective found only one immediate clue, a ring that could have passed for a peasants or a royal ring, a man or a woman's. But finding the owner to the ring in kingdom of Berbrooke, would be like finding a needle in a haystack. So the detective simply concluded that they must find more clues.
They'd go on to search house by house for years for the lost princess but still had no luck. After ten years the detective said with his head bowed down, "Your majesties, it has been ten years and the harsh truth is that princess Charlotte is most likely deceased."
The Queen looked at him with tears in her eyes.
He continued, "We have looked almost everywhere in the kingdom and there's simply no trace of her. We can have a scroll made as quickly as tomorrow declaring her-"
The Queen looked at him and snapped, "You will not stop searching for her and you will certainly not send out a scroll declaring her dead."
The King looked as his Queen and said, "Eliza, I know it is terrible news but he may have a point. No trace of her for this long, it's just difficult to believe she's still out there."
"She is not dead. Call it what you will, but I know that she is still alive. Just because it may be difficult doesn't mean that it's not impossible." the queen then looked at the detective and pointed, "You will not stop looking for her until she is found. No matter how difficult or how long it takes you will find her." She looked at her king and pointed, "And you, it breaks my heart that you of all people are willing to declare our miracle dead without proof."
With a pained expression across her face, she turned to the detective and said, "Do you still have the ring?"
He replied pulling the ring from his pocket, "Yes your majesty, but it has given us no luck."
"We shall have it framed in the middle of the kingdom so that no one forgets about the lost princess. And someday when we find our culprit, the ring will fit and they will be sentenced to death." she exclaimed.
And so the ring was placed in the center of the kingdom in an unbreakable glass dome that only the queen had a key to.
The queen and now the king as well, were determined to find their lost princess at whatever cost. The detective was determined to never give up and committed his existence to solving this case.
But somewhere in the city there was a girl going about her day who would never know her true identity, or would she?
