It was the middle of the night and Dazai was up late, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. He had been stuck staring at his feed for the past 3 hours. He didn’t like getting sucked into these brain rot cycles, but at least they distracted him from his negative thoughts. Most of the time, anyway.

He almost dropped his phone on his face in surprise as his phone started to buzz like an angry wasp that woke him up from his half-asleep daze, Instagram looping the same video over and over in the background. Chuuya was calling him, and Dazai thought it was a nightmare– or a dream?– that his former partner from the Port Mafia was calling him at such a time. Surely Dazai had to have fallen asleep and this wasn’t real, right?

He collected his thoughts and tried not letting his mind run too wild before pressing the green button. He mustered his best impression of his sleepy voice and spoke first. “Did you call me to tell me your dying words, Nakahara?” Dazai had to fight back a smirk as he called Chuuya by his last name, purposefully trying to provoke him. Much to Dazai’s surprise though, radio silence. He could hear music in the background, muffled by the sound of indistinct chatter. “He's probably at a bar,” Dazai thought to himself. It wasn’t like this was out of the norm for Chuuya, he is an alcoholic after all.

Other than that, all that could be heard over the line was the other man’s breathing. Before Dazai’s worry could set in, his thoughts were stopped in their tracks by the sound of Chuuya’s voice. “Where are you?” He sounded drunk. Really drunk. Again, it wasn’t unlike his former partner to drink excessively, but something felt off. Dazai couldn’t help but wonder, why was Chuuya calling him of all people? Why didn’t he call Mori, or even Ozaki? They haven’t been on good terms in… Ever, and even when they were on better terms, it wasn’t like Chuuya ever relied on him. “Hello? Are you still there, Osamu?” Dazai’s heart skipped a beat as he heard the fiery haired man say his first name. Despite Chuuya having a drunken tone, he couldn’t help but feel a little more attracted to the man. Dazai cleared his throat, trying his best to sound serious. “Yeah I am, um… Chuuya, are you in trouble or something?” Dazai bit his tongue as he waited to prevent himself from letting words fly out of his mouth. “No, nothing like that… I just… wanted to hear your voice.”  Was Dazai hearing him right? “Is this a prank call? Because if it is, I–” Chuuya cut him off, “No, really… I’ve been thinking about you.”  Okay, Dazai really felt like this had to be a dream at this point, there’s no way this really was happening. Especially not just when he thought he was over his crush on the hot-headed idiot, which Dazai was still heavily in denial about. “Okay…” Dazai said coolly, hoping he wouldn’t come across as excited or that he wanted to hear him say that. “What about me have you been thinking about?” He asked calmly as he could, trying to get his inner storm under control. After a brief pause Chuuya said, “...Can we meet?” Dazai’s eyes widened. His mind was definitely running wild now, but he still tried to maintain some composure, at least on the outside. “Sure, where?” The other man was silent again, unknowingly giving Dazai some needed time to process what the actual fuck was going on. Was Chuuya toying with him? Maybe this was a ploy to get closer to the ADA? Or… Was this actually real?

“How about our old usual meet up spot? You still remember it, right?”  Of course Dazai remembers. It was the arcade where they had spent lots of time playing games together or just shooting the shit when Chuuya was still fairly new to the Port Mafia. It quickly became their secret meeting place when they wanted to talk without anyone breathing down their necks, Port Mafia or ADA alike. “Sounds good. See you soon, Chuuuuya~” Dazai said in a teasing tone, as if mocking him. He wasn’t getting any reactions out of the gravity manipulator though, positive or negative, and it made Dazai feel slightly on edge. Well, whatever the case, hopefully this was real and not some sort of ploy that the Port Mafia came up with.
