I met a stranger today
He was standing by the river, gazing out at the water as if lost in thought.
There was something about the way he stood, so still and yet so present, that drew me in.
Our eyes met, and for a moment, time seemed to slow. He smiled, a small, sad smile that hinted at a story untold.
We sat by the river, talking as if we’d known each other for years. He told me about his dreams, his fears, and the love he once had the love he lost.
There was a quiet pain in his voice, a deep sadness that resonated with something within me.
I found myself sharing things I’d never told anyone, drawn to his honesty and the way he listened, truly listened, as if every word I spoke mattered.
As the sun began to set, he looked at me, his eyes reflecting the fading light. “Thank you,” he said softly. For listening, for being here. But I have to go now.”
I wanted to ask him to stay, to keep talking, to not leave me here alone with the emptiness that was creeping in. But I didn’t.
Something in his gaze told me that this moment, this connection, was meant to be fleeting.
So, I smiled back, a sad smile of my own, and watched as he walked away, disappearing into the shadows.
