The dogs strained against the various chains around each of their necks. I stepped as far away as the rope would let me, pulling it taut. I finished the final knot and stood up straight to stretch.
The ground rumbled faintly as I ran through the list of things I had done. Trick my friends, betray my friends, and I'm about to leave them. For good.
I broke the one thing I had told myself was keeping me together. As we met eyes, Raven's sobs seemed to subside for a minute.
The note, I mouthed.
She shaked so badly I could see it from where I stood as she unfolded the crumpled scrap of paper. She froze, and when she met my eyes once again, I felt sparks. Then her gaze shifted behind me, and cried out.
That's when I felt its breath on my neck, and exhaustion won. I collapsed.
I probably won't actually use this for anything.
