After two hours stuck in a ticking car together, Spider-Man was exhausted, and teary from trying to escape the car stuck to a bomb. Black Cat however was in a different mood. Teary nonetheless, but resentful, infuriated. In the last few months, their relationship has been On and Off due to Spider's "obligations" to MJ. Cat didn't see what those "obligations" could be, but she didn't voice her opinion in fear of upsetting him and therefore losing him. That was until now. Where emotions were at the surface and when things were said in the car. Facing death we come up with the biggest most profound fears we didn't know we had...

She's wiping dust off of her knees, in an awkward silence, when she notices a shift in his stance. When she looks up, he's already looking down at her. His big white eyes half their size, indicating he's shrugging them. — What, Spider? — Nothing...Nothing...I just, uhm, what you said..back there. I'm sorry, I didn't want to make you feel like that.

He scratches the back of his neck, something she noticed he did when he was at a loss for words, which was many times. She ignored him, whatever he was trying to do wasn't pleasing her. She had confessed everything she had ever felt for him, all she had ever thought, to which he retributed with an alarmed face. What she thought was one behind the mask. Sometimes she hoped he would just take his mask off to surprise her, allowing her to decipher what was really going on, how he really felt...

— C'mon, Kitty... — Don't call me that. —...we had something so great! — Oh, did we? Really? What was so great about patrolling together, getting together and then only seeing each other the night after? After a full day that I spent thinking of you and you spent with her? We've never even seen our real faces! — That's not fair...You knew you knew me and MJ were talking when we started this- — Oh my- I don't want to hear her name. I want you to be gone. Gone! Go home to her or whatever it is that you do when you leave me. — That's not fair, though! I like you both...I mean. I think I used to. I don't know! I'm not that confused...

She can't take it anymore so she starts walking away. Thinking of the first days of their "relationship" where she would playfully walk away from him and he followed her, running, and had a few laughs before falling into each other once more. She wanted him to chase her, like old times, for old times' sake. She started to feel her eyes watering when her body was struck in her lower back. She was dragged back and collided with his chest. He spins her body around in his arms, his webs stuck to her, bounding them together.

— You're not walking away from me. I don't think I said anything wrong... I just like one of you better than the other. I was such a fool for not making up my mind earlier. —So, you like her...more? Is that it? Am I the second choice? Because I would rather not be, you either want me or you don't. I have enough respect for myself to know I'll never settle to be the one you choose after trying it with the other girl. — Stop... I don't like her more! That's not true... It's not about that! I do, I do like you more! Dammit! Let me talk!

Cat is looking at the emblem on his chest, not being able to look up. At him. She can't help but let her weight slightly fall on his strong arms that are so carefully wrapped around her, hesitant to touch her any further. For a moment they just stand there. In the silence of their previous words. She's simply waiting, wanting, hoping for a confession. As real and as raw as hers had been. An arm of his leaves her waist and pulls at the back of his neck, the fabric of his suit stretching until his face is perfectly exposed to her curious eyes. She looks up, no words leaving her mouth. He looks perfectly honest, and sincere. There's an unfamiliar expression on his face, devotion? Maybe. Maybe it's just tiredness. But she can't take her eyes off of his. Dark and pleading. Not what she expected his eyes to be like. Feeling the movement of his chest breathing heavily pleases her. Her hand sneaks to where his heart beats and he continues, hoarser than before.

— I only like you. I ended things her way before our last patrol. I only want you. I only want you to know me with and without the mask, I only want you to hug Spiderman and Peter Parker. I only want you to know my name, and touch my skin. You're the only one I want to put my trust in, and effort. I'll work for it if that's what you please, I'll prove to you that you are not my second choice. I'm not settling, I simply love you.

A silence falls on them again. This time it's not awkward but intense, real and loving. She can feel his heart beating faster under her palm and his eyes are searching hers through her goggles. She lifts her free hand and carefully removes them. Both of them are completely bare-faced now. Looking into each other in a lover's embrace. The look of love. She can feel her stomach turning at the sight of him leaning forward. They had never kissed with their masks completely off. She could only describe this kiss as a promise, a rush. The softness of his lips was exactly what she loved and it was entirely him. She broke the kiss and hid her face in the crook of his neck. She kissed the skin above the hem of his suit. Thinking about the kiss. Gentle and tender as he had always been with her. It wasn't like their usual kisses that were hungry and urgent. It was the real him. This one was sweet, it was delicate and assuring. It was an exchange.
