Filipino Christmas

The holidays were just around the corner, and New York City was beginning to embrace the festive spirit. Christmas lights adorned every street corner, wreaths hung on doors, and the scent of roasted chestnuts filled the air. The city was abuzz with holiday cheer, and everywhere you looked, there were signs of the season: decorated storefronts, carolers singing in the streets, and the faint hum of holiday music playing from every corner.

The Avengers Tower was no different. Inside, the giant tree in the lobby stood tall, adorned with shimmering ornaments and sparkling lights. Tony Stark, who had taken on the role of the Tower's unofficial holiday decorator, was overseeing the process with his usual flair. Despite his usual confidence, he was struggling with a particularly unruly string of lights, which seemed determined to tangle itself around his arm.

Peter Parker, who had been staying with Tony Stark and Pepper Potts since losing his Aunt May, was excited to celebrate Christmas in a special way this year. Peter had never spent a Christmas away from his family before, and although the Stark-Potts household had been incredibly welcoming, he couldn't help but miss the traditions he once knew.

"Hey, Pete, have you ever celebrated Christmas the Filipino way?" Ned Leeds, Peter's best friend, asked excitedly one afternoon at school. Ned was of Filipino descent, and his family went all out for the holidays, a tradition he was eager to share.

Peter looked up from his desk, a bit puzzled. "No, but it sounds fun. What's it like?"

Ned's eyes lit up with enthusiasm. "It's amazing! We have a tradition called 'Noche Buena'—it's a huge feast on Christmas Eve. And we also do 'Simbang Gabi,' a series of nine dawn masses leading up to Christmas. It's super early, but it's worth it."

Peter raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Simbang Gabi? Dawn masses?"

"Yeah," Ned said, his voice animated. "It starts on December 16th and goes on until Christmas Eve. After each mass, there's food—lots of it. Bibingka, puto bumbong, lechon, you name it."

Peter's stomach growled at the thought of all the delicious-sounding foods. "That sounds awesome. Can I come with you to one of the masses?"

Ned grinned broadly. "Of course! And this weekend, we're having a big family gathering for Noche Buena. You should definitely come."

Peter felt a warmth in his chest. Since losing Aunt May, he hadn't felt the comfort of family traditions. This sounded like exactly what he needed. "I'd love to. Let me just ask Mr. Stark and Pepper."

When Peter got home that evening, he found Mr. Stark and Pepper in the living room, putting up a Christmas tree. Tony, in his typical fashion, was struggling with the string of lights, which seemed to have a mind of their own.

"Hey, kid," Tony called out, his face lighting up as he saw Peter. "Give us a hand, will ya?"

Peter chuckled and quickly used his web-shooters to lift the lights and place them perfectly around the tree. "There you go, Mr. Stark."

Pepper smiled warmly, her eyes reflecting the twinkling lights. "Thanks, Peter. What's up?"

Peter took a deep breath. "So, Ned invited me to join his family for some Filipino Christmas traditions. There's a dawn mass called Simbang Gabi, and a big feast called Noche Buena. Can I go?"

Tony and Pepper exchanged a glance, a silent conversation passing between them. Tony shrugged. "Why not? Sounds like fun. Plus, we could all use some holiday spirit, right?"

Pepper nodded thoughtfully. "I think it's a wonderful idea. Just let us know when you need a ride."

Happy Hogan, who had been watching from the kitchen while preparing hot cocoa, chimed in. "And I'll help with the logistics. Gotta make sure our kid's in good hands."
