Purva : The First Light

7 : What's her name?

Arjun was walking towards Purva when Somya came in between them.

Somya knew that if Purva didn't listen to her, Arjun would actually pick her up, and Somya never wanted Arjun to even look at another girl, let alone touch one.

However, Somya was surprised because the boy who never used to talk to any girl was now not only talking to a girl but was also ready to lift her up.

Somya felt a bit awkward and, smiling, said to Purva,
"Come on, I'll get some company, otherwise I would've had to be alone with these two. Please come, please."

Purva thought for a moment and then agreed to go with them.

In the canteen:

"Wow, aloo paratha! My mom always gives me bitter gourd," Satwik said while eating potato parathas from Arjun's lunchbox.

Arjun and Somya were sitting on one side, while Purva and Satwik were sitting across from them. Arjun noticed that Purva hadn't brought anything to eat, so he got up to leave.

"Where are you going?" Somya asked.

"What do you care?" Arjun replied rudely and left.

Somya was waiting for Arjun to eat so she could start too. Arjun returned, holding some food, and placed it in front of Purva.

"Here, eat this," he said.

Purva looked at Arjun and said,
"I don't want to eat, you can have it."

She pushed the plate back towards Arjun.

"I told you to eat, I brought my lunchbox, I'll eat that."

"Come on, just eat it. Not everyone gets such an opportunity, you're lucky!" Somya said, smiling at Purva.

"Are you going to eat, or do I have to feed you?" Arjun said in a cold voice.

"No, no, she'll eat!" Somya replied quickly, feeling scared.

"Please, eat! If you don't, we won't either," Somya threatened Purva. Everyone started eating.

Just then, a boy came and hit Somya on the head, then sat next to Purva.

Somya hit the boy back, "Why did you hit me?" she asked angrily.

"I'll hit you again, what can you do?" Shankar teased her.

"You can't just hit a girl like that, it's wrong," Purva, who was sitting next to Shankar, said.

Shankar looked to his side and realized it was the same girl he had seen in the morning. He got lost in her eyes.

Satwik laughed and said, "He's only saved because he's her brother. If it was anyone else, they'd be in the hospital by now. Only someone really unlucky would mess with her."

"You're talking too much. Do you want a hospital visit?" Somya threatened Satwik, showing him her eyes.

Satwik went quiet, knowing that if he said too much, he'd really end up in the hospital.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were Somya's brother," Purva said softly.

"Brother, brother! Where are you lost?" Somya called out to Shankar, who was still lost in Purva.

"Why don't you sit with your sister, and I'll sit over there?" Arjun asked.

Both Shankar and Somya said, "No!" at the same time and then looked at each other's faces.

Somya wanted to sit with Arjun, and Shankar wanted to sit with Purva. As soon as they both spoke together, everyone looked at them. Satwik started laughing at the two of them.

Trying to handle the awkward situation, Somya said, "Oh, I just meant that you're fine where you're sitting. What's the point of changing seats again and again, right?"

Shankar, trying to change the topic, asked, "By the way, is this girl from your class?"
"Yeah, she's from our class, a new student," Somya replied.
" what's her name?" Satwik asked, confused.

"Oh, she introduced herself in class, but I didn't pay attention. I think her name is..." Somya was trying to remember when a voice interrupted.

"Purva,"

Arjun said with an emotionless face.
"Yes, yes, Purva. Sorry, I didn't remember, but I'll remember now," Somya said.

"But you were busy with your books when everyone was introducing themselves. How do you know her name?" Satwik asked Arjun.

"Oh, I'm the class CR, I need to remember the names of all the students in class," Arjun replied, trying to hide his gaze.

"Okay, then tell me the names of all the new students," Somya asked jealously.

"Oh god, you guys are really after me. I just overheard her name, so I remembered it."

"By the way, you have a really nice name," Shankar complimented Purva.

"Thank you," Purva replied.

"By the way, my name is Shankar Gaur, from 12th grade, Section A."

"Oh, can I ask you something?"

"Yes, go ahead."

"When you came to me this morning, did you want to say something to me?"

"Can I ask you something in return?"

"Sure."

"Why were you crying this morning?"

"Actually, my friend was mad at me, so I was a bit upset."

"Why was your friend mad?"

"Because of him," Purva pointed towards Arjun.

"What did Arjun do?" Somya asked Purva angrily.

Arjun got up from his seat, grabbed Somya's hand, and walked away.
"Where are you going? I'm coming too, wait for me!" Satwik yelled as he followed them.

Shivani and Rohan were watching the whole scene from afar.

"What did Arjun do?" Shankar asked softly.
"Actually, my best friend wanted to be friends with him, but he ignored her and walked away. That's why she got mad at me, because I was the one who took him to meet her."

"Arjun is a good guy, but he keeps his distance from girls. He doesn't even talk to them, let alone become friends."

"But he's been talking to me since this morning. First, he walked to school with me, and we talked the whole way. Then he brought me to the canteen, and even brought food for me."

"He's never done so much for any girl before, why is he doing this for you?" Shankar asked, confused.

"Maybe because my brother and Arjun are friends, that's probably why," Purva guessed.

"Yeah, that must be the reason, otherwise why would he do that?"

"By the way, you didn't tell me, what were you going to say this morning?"

Will Shankar be able to express his feelings to Purva?
