Anna stirred awake, her vision blurry and head throbbing. Emily's concerned face hovered above her.
"Anna, you're awake," Emily said softly, her voice a gentle comfort amidst the pain.
"What happened?" Anna croaked, trying to make sense of her surroundings.
"You got into an accident," Emily explained, her tone calm yet tinged with worry. "But the good news is, you just have some bruises. Please don't cry, Anna. You need to rest."
Anna's mind raced as she remembered the last moments before everything went black. "Jaycee... he's such a liar..." Her voice broke with frustration and sadness.
Emily's eyes softened. "He's the one who saved you. He got some injuries too, but nothing too serious. He'll be okay soon."
Anna's heart sank. "Where is he?"
"He went to the airport," Emily replied, her voice steady. "Your father helped him get there."
"My dad?" Anna's eyes widened in surprise.
"Yes," Emily confirmed. "But for now, you need to focus on taking care of yourself. Don't worry too much. Everything will be okay soon."
As Anna lay back against the pillows, her heart ached with the weight of what had happened. Jaycee, despite the tumultuous end to their time together, had still risked everything to save her. The thought of him leaving, possibly forever, filled her with a profound sadness.
That would be the last time she saw Jaycee. Even though things had ended badly between them, his actions that night proved that, despite everything, he had a part of him that cared. Anna wished she could find a way to thank him, to let him know how much his sacrifice meant to her. Wherever he was now, she hoped he was okay.
FIVE YEARS LATER...
David's voice echoed with pride as he addressed the family gathering in their elegantly decorated living room. "Congratulations, Anna! You're officially a nurse now!"
Laura beamed, her eyes twinkling with maternal pride. "Yes, she passed the bar exam and even topped it! Intelligent, just like me."
David chuckled, feigning a hurt expression. "And I'm intelligent too, you know."
Anna laughed softly, shaking her head. "Dad, Mom, you're both smart. I couldn't have done it without you."
David clapped his hands, turning to the rest of the room. "So, the party starts at 7 PM. Everything's set – the food, the sound system..."
Laura nodded in agreement. "Yes, everything's prepared for a fantastic evening. Your friends and classmates will be here soon."
Anna looked around at the preparations and felt a wave of gratitude. "Thank you, Dad, Mom. I love you both."
"We love you too, our daughter," David replied warmly.
As she looked forward to the night's celebrations, Anna reflected on the significance of the moment. She had officially become a nurse, marking a new chapter in her life with a promising career and the chance to save money for the future. But as she pondered the future, she couldn't shake the lingering shadows of her past.
"Hi, Anna!" Emily's voice cut through her reverie as she arrived at the party.
"Emily! Congratulations!" Anna exclaimed, embracing her friend.
Emily grinned. "Yes, we're the most beautiful nurses in town!"
Anna laughed. "Absolutely."
James approached them, a familiar face amidst the celebration. "Hi, Anna."
