Taylor was nothing if not a noble woman, and she concealed her feelings of failure marvelously as she offered her elbow for Camille Rivera to take. Taylor was sure she was an agreeable and charming girl, but she wasn't Britney Dvorak.
And Taylor had waited for all of her years to meet Britney Dvorak.
She tried to look at the positive; it was obvious that Camille was Britney's best friend, so becoming friends with her would look good in Britney's eyes. It was very clear that Britney and Camille were dedicated to each other and their friendship. Camille would be a great way for Taylor to learn about Britney.
"So, how long have you been staying here?" Taylor asked considerately as they began their walk around the property.
"We got here yesterday," she said. "What about you? This is the first time I'm seeing you so far."
"I just got here a few hours ago," Taylor said. "After dinner." She frowned. Now that her distraction in the shape of Britney Dvorak was gone, she was reminded of how hungry she was.
"Oh my god, you have to be starving," Camille said. "Let's go to the snack table."
Taylor had the sudden urge to hug her. "You are an amazing woman."
She smiled, but it didn't quite meet her eyes; Taylor couldn't figure out why. She didn't think she had said anything wrong.
"Do you have any siblings?" Taylor asked.
"I do," she affirmed with a smile. "I have five sisters. One older, four younger."
Taylor only smiled as they continued walking.
"It's this way," Camille said, gently pulling Taylor in the direction of the food.
"What food is out here?"
"Sandwiches. They're small, but fully tasty."
Taylor nodded, though it was distractedly. In her peripheral vision, she'd gotten a glimpse of Britney, and she was having a hard time concentrating on anything but her. And even more so because she had men around her.
"Um, how long have you known Britney?" she asked, trying to be nonchalant.
Camille hesitated before saying, "Three years. We went to college together, but we graduated a couple months ago."
"Oh, how nice. Where did you two go to school?"
"UGA."
"That's far."
Camille nodded. "We're both from Georgia, actually. But we know Lisa through mutual friends, so she invited us here."
Taylor gave her a small smile, suddenly weary at the fact that Britney lived in Georgia. That would make everything so complicated. Her eyes wandered over to Britney again.
Camille sighed softly. "She's in love with someone else."
Taylor unwillingly forced her eyes back to Camille. "What?"
She shrugged as she grabbed some sandwiches. "Britney. She's in a relationship. I thought you should know that."
Taylor's lips parted in shock as she stared blankly at her. She couldn't help it when her eyes went back to Britney yet again. She was pathetic, but she really could not help herself. She could look at her forever. She'd never been in love, but this had to be it... right?
"Do you want ham?"
"Huh?"
Camille calmly pointed to the ham sandwiches. "Would you like a ham sandwich?"
