Jennifer's POV:
I've definitely had better days at this school. Honestly, the past week has been the absolute worst I've experienced, even worse than the time when everything went into pure utter chaos with Needy almost going completely cray cray on me. It felt like a particularly bad storm in an already turbulent sea of school drama.
To make things clearer, let's just say that Needy was on edge, and I might have been a contributing factor. I've been going on and on about the same thing, probably more than anyone could tolerate. It's no wonder Needy knew exactly what was bothering me - it's hard to miss when someone is practically shouting their frustrations from the rooftops.
So, yeah, you can probably guess why things have been so rough recently. It's not rocket science if you're paying attention.
As we sat together, as usual, at the table closest to the entrance of the cafeteria, I was talking about the same thing, again.
"Jesus Christ, Jennifer, you're obsessed with her," Needy said during lunch.
"No, I'm not. She's just annoying me. And look at how she acts like she owns this place, strutting around like she's perfect," I replied, taking a bite of my fry.
"Listen, I don't think I've ever seen you this worked up about someone. Honestly, I've never seen you so obsessed before. Seriously, why do you care so much? It's getting unbearable. What the hell happened to you?"
"Nothing. Nothing happened to me. I told you, she's just annoying, and to be honest, it's actually pissing me off. Everyone thinks she's all that now, but she's not even that pretty. Am I prettier than her? Say I'm prettier than her. I am, right?"
"Well, I don't think beauty makes any difference here," Needy said. "Plus, I seriously don't get why you're so fixated on her." I looked at Needy with a fake pout, taking on her outburst, knowing it's probably (most likely) very valid. She shook her head at me.
"Okay, listen," Needy said, her frustration showing. "If you're so fixated on her, why don't you just befriend her?"
"What..? What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well," Needy continued, "if she's so popular now and that bothers you so much, and you keep putting her down—ironically or not—then maybe you should consider this. If you start hanging out with her, it might actually help you get some of the popularity she apparently stole from you."
"Oh my god, fine. I guess that does kind of make sense," I agreed begrudgingly. "Well, we have biology together after lunch, so I'll give it a try, I guess. Let's dare to lose."
-
Ironically, biology started about 18 minutes ago, and for the past 18 minutes, I've completely destroyed the piece of paper in front of me on my desk. It's the best – and well, the only school appropriate way of letting out my anger. Why so angry? Not much on my mind right now, just the new girl. Chiara fucking Angelo, who happens to sit right across from me and somehow knows the answer to every single question the teacher asks.
I'm not even the nerd type, but no one can be that perfect. I need to find her weak spot so I can ruin her life once and for all. But that requires talking to her first.
As the class was coming to an end, just as I predicted, the teacher announced a group project due in two weeks. I took my chance, got up from my seat, and as swiftly as I could, appeared right behind my little victim. I tapped her shoulder lightly, watching her turn around to face me.
"Yes?"
"Hi! Do you want to be my partner? I know my way around Mrs. Bailey's assignments."
Her scent was strong and sweet, filling my nose the second I approached her.
She smelled really nice.
"Sure... Jennifer, right?" Chiara replied, unimpressed.
"Yeah, Jennifer," I rolled my eyes lightly. "Can I get your number? You know, for the project."
I sent her the fakest smile I could assemble, quickly realizing she matched my attitude perfectly. An oversweetened smirk formed on her face as she took my phone and started typing in her number.
"Text me after school, 'kay?" She picked up the last of her things, and after a quick, but definitely prolonged, eye contact, she left the classroom.
Step one: completed.
