It was by chance that Sophie and Tony called at their sons home. They let themselves in, and the house was silent. They knew that Owen and Dylan were home. Tony stepped in first and clocked the hallway table. Sophie gasped when she saw it. Tony checked downstairs whilst Sophie waited by the door.
"All clear down here." Tony said, and they both ascended the stairs.
Neither of them were prepared for the scene they came upon. There was blood and things upturned or smashed. Sophie went towards the master bedroom. The door was wide open. Sophie cried out when she saw what she saw. Dylan was unconscious on the bed. Owen had literally just finished raping her.
"Owen, what have you done?" Sophie said.
"I taught her a lesson." Owen said.
"What the fuck?" Tony said dialling 911. He checked Dylan for a pulse. He could feel a very faint one, as he connected to emergency services.
"Dad, what are you doing? We don't need the police." Owen said and stood up to get cleaned off.
"Stay there!" Tony said. "Honey, go and wait for the police to get here." Sophie exited and practically ran down the stairs to put as much distance between her and what she had witnessed.
Tony kept an eye on Dylan. She wasn't moving at all.
"DYLAN!"Owen yelled, "Wake up, you stupid bitch! We have company." Tony shook his head in dismay.
"Owen." Is all he said.
Sophie stood with the front door open. She could hear the sirens coming. Sophie said a silent prayer and looked upwards, thanking God.
The police arrived first. Sophie explained the situation. One officer went with Sophie whilst another called for backup and forensics. 2 minutes later, an ambulance pulled up. The EMTS got out and rushed into the house.
Sophie stood back and let the police check Dylan. He felt for a pulse. It was still weak, but there. The officer took photos of the situation to help forensics out because this woman needed immediate medical assistance.
"Is this all this really necessary?" Owen said. "She's fine. She will wake up soon."
"Sir, she's unconscious and needs to go to hospital. We need to check for internal damage and head injuries."
"Honestly, all this fuss. I refuse to let her go to the hospital. She's not leaving this house without my permission."
"It's not up to you to decide that, sir."
"It is. I am her next of kin." Owen said, looking triumphant.
"Actually, no, you aren't. Her mother is." The cop informed him.
The paramedics entered the room and started to triage Dylan.
"What's her name?" Sarah Orzechowski, one of the paramedics asked.
"Dylan." Tony replied.
"Hello, Dylan, can you hear me?" She shone a torch in Dylans eyes. Dylan didn't stir. Her eyes reacted to the light.
"Dallon, can you get the board?" Sarah asked her colleague. He nodded and disappeared downstairs.
Meanwhile, the police were questioning Owen about what happened. He told them exactly what happened, like he was proud or something. He admitted to raping her as well. Sophie had been listening and was sobbing for Dylan and who her son used to be.
Owen was arrested and taken down to a waiting patrol car.
The police spoke to his parents, advising them that they would need to come to the station to make a statement about what they saw.
Dylan was loaded onto a backboard and taken to the hospital. Sophie went with her. She contacted Dylans mother on the way."Sophie!" Dylans mother, Carol said. Sophie was sitting in the waiting area. She jumped up when Carol came in.
"Carol, I am so sorry." Sophie said. Carol held a hand up to her.
"Sophie, stop. None of this is yours or Tony's fault. You raised Owen to be a good person. Whatever this is, it is on him. He is responsible." Carol hugged Sophie.
"Are you Dylan Parkers' family?" A Dr asked approaching them.
"Yes!" The 2 ladies answered.
"Hello, my name is Dr Hunter. I am a general surgeon. My colleague Dr Shepherd will be here momentarily. As if by magic, Dr Shepherd appeared. They all sat down.
"Dylans brain was swelling, so I have had to drill burr holes into her skull to relieve the pressure. She is currently having a ct scan, followed by an mri. She will need brain surgery. Until the scan results come back, we won't know how badly her brain was injured." Shepherd said. Carol kept a tight hold of Sophies hand.
"We do believe that Dylan has sustained internal injuries too. Based on the scan results, this will determine what course of treatment we take." Dr Hunter sighed and carried on. "Once the police have finished taking dna samples and things, she will have surgery."
"Which surgery will she have first?" Carol asked.
"That will depend on where the most serious injury is located. But it's highly likely that Dr. Shpeherd will need to operate first." Hunter replied. Carol and Sophie nodded. "Someone will come to take you up to the surgical floor waiting area." And the 2 Dr's got up and left.
At this point, Tony walked in. He scanned the ER looking for his wife and Carol. He spotted them and walked over to them just as a health care assistant approached to take them both upstairs. Tony went with them whilst Sophie informed him of what they had been told. Carol was numb at the moment. She didn't know how to think or feel about anything. She wanted to hate Owen, but it was hard because she had known him a long time. Before this personality shift, Owen had been a wonderful young man. A shining example of how his parents had raised him. Carol loved Owen, like he was another son. Her neighbour had offered to have Nico. He was 10. Carol said that she would call to let him know how Dylan was doing.
As they all sat in the waiting area, Dr. Shepherd came to explain that the injury on Dylans brain was the more pressing issue, so he would be operating first. Dr Hunter would be in the OR as well, to monitor Dylans internal injuries.
Shepherd left, and that's when Carol crumbled. She sobbed. Her baby girl was about to have major surgery on her brain. Sophie put an arm around Carol.
Now, all anybody could do was wait.
