Her Father left her mother for a man, which is a complicated thing for any young girl to understand. Her sister Caroline was always the princess of the family, always getting away with everything, always loved the most.
Caitlin was forever the second choice.
From a young age, Caitlin was forced to tag along with her sister. This caused her to develop a childhood friendship with Jeremy Gilbert. Jeremy was her constant. Her constant in a world of ups and downs, he always remained the same. Jeremy. Her sister's best friend's brother. Her best friend. The person she would tell everything to, the person she was always with.
They experienced life together, and all the trauma that followed.
She was his first choice.
But life was not kind to the teens, and they both developed habits. With one, came both. Caitlin became friends with the wrong people, so Jeremy did too. They were exposed to the world too early, and the world fed on their despair.
Jeremy's Parents died.
Their habits became addictions.
They partied, they laughed and they cried. They spent the entire summer in a haze, constantly fiending for their next buzz.
Jeremy became infatuated with Vicki Donovan. She was older, but no wiser.
Then the summer ended. Caitlin and Jeremy both yet to see the true evil of Mystic Falls.
