Since she never even thought about a reunion, Judith burst into tears like a child receiving an unexpected gift. Derrick, seemingly flustered, stayed silent for a while before awkwardly trying to lift her face by cupping her cheeks.

“Let me see your face.”

Realizing belatedly that she had been crying so much, Judith felt embarrassed about her probably disheveled face and avoided his touch.

“N-no.”

“No? Do you think I survived hell to be rejected like this?”

His characteristic playful voice was something she had always missed.

In the end, Judith slowly raised her head. Although she was worried about her swollen eyes and flushed cheeks, she didn’t have the heart to refuse him since she wanted to see him so much.

Derrick gently caressed her tear-streaked cheeks.

“… I hoped I was mistaken.”

A deep, low voice that was even lower than Derrick Vaisil’s occasionally stirred her ears.

“You’ve really gotten thinner.”

Right after he whispered, there was a faint grinding of his teeth.

“What about the baby?”

Suddenly, he lowered his gaze to look around her abdomen.

When humans conceive, they must carry the baby for at least ten months. So, it was natural for him to be curious about her flat stomach when it should have been showing by now. Judith shook her head as she wiped her tears with his hand.

“The baby… is gone.”

Derrick immediately wrapped his hand around her stomach. Judith flinched at the black light that seeped from his hand.

“… I see.”

After a moment, he ran his hand through his hair with a complicated expression. Seeing his face, clearly trying to process everything he had been through, Judith felt her emotions surge again. She felt like the warmest and strongest ally in the world had returned to her.

“At my husband’s funeral, I had a miscarriage.”

Thinking about that time, her eyes, which had barely stopped crying, began to fill with tears again.

“Do you know how hard it was for me? You disappeared, the baby was lost. Everything, everything just kept happening to me…”

Judith, who had been quietly covering her face, suddenly felt a hand wrap around her waist. Soon, something solid enveloped her body tightly. It was him, hugging her.

“I understand. It’s all my fault. So please, can you stop crying?”

Does he know that this only makes her cry more?

Even before he disappeared, he never knew what to do when she cried. His weakness to tears made it clear that this was indeed the demon she had missed so much.

Judith cried even more sorrowfully. Derrick kept patting her back, repeatedly telling her that it was all right now.

Then, as if he had cast a spell, surprisingly, she really began to feel better.

Maybe it was the outpouring of tears, but her head felt heavy. Judith raised her arms and wrapped them around his neck.

“What is this body? Did you possess someone else again…?”
