Y/N's POV
"Y/n, where are my shoes?" yelled Mason from across the house.
"I don't know where your shoes are, Mase, but can you hurry up and help Linc put his shoes on? We're leaving in half an hour," I called back, already feeling the time crunch as I hustled to get the triplets ready for school.
"Fine," sighed Mason, clearly annoyed, but I was too busy to care right now.
Turning my attention back to the younger kids, I smiled at Trey, one of the triplets. "Alright, now that Mason is helping Linc, how about we get your shoes on, huh? What do you think, Trey?"
"Yes, but do Harpie first, Y/N!" Trey squealed, pointing at his sister Harper, who was fiddling with her socks.
"Okay, okay, I'll do Harper first," I laughed, crouching down to help her. "Come on, guys. Let's get ready so we can go to school."
"Aww, but I don't want to go to school, Y/N," Taylor, the other triplet, pouted, her arms crossed defiantly.
I crouched down to her level, trying to soften the inevitable truth. "I'm sorry, Tay, but we have to go. The good news is that when school is over, Mum and Dad will be home."
Her little face scrunched up in thought before she sighed dramatically. "Fine, but only because I get to see Mum and Dad after."
"Hey, sis, we're ready now!" Mason called out from the hallway, Linc now with his shoes on.
"Perfect! Let's head out, everyone."
Mason's POV
My sister can be so bossy sometimes. I know she means well, but it's still super annoying when she's telling me what to do. I was finally outside on the school playground, trying to relax and hang out with my friends, when my little brother Linc came running up, full speed.
"Dude, tell your brother to leave us alone. He's always annoying us," one of my friends grumbled.
"What do you want, Linc? Can't you see I'm busy?" I huffed, already frustrated. "Come on, make it quick."
"Mr. Slink said he needs to see both of us now!" Linc exclaimed, barely catching his breath.
"Ugh, fine. Do you know why he wants to see us?" I asked, standing up reluctantly.
"No, he just said to get you and meet him in the office," Linc replied, looking a little worried.
"Alright, let's get this over with so we can get back to lunch," I sighed.
When we arrived at the office, Mr. Slink greeted us with his usual playful tone. "Ah, if it isn't my two favorite students!"
"Sir, you say that to every student," I replied, rolling my eyes.
"I know, I know," Mr. Slink laughed. "But listen, I just got a call from the high school. Your parents won't be able to pick you up today, so Y/N will be here at 4 p.m. to get you instead, okay?"
I exchanged a glance with Linc before asking, "Do you know why Mum and Dad can't pick us up? And will we be in after-school care until Y/N gets here?"
"No idea why they can't come, but yes, you'll be in after-school care until Y/N arrives," Mr. Slink confirmed.
"Alright, thanks for letting us know, Mr. Slink. We should head back to lunch now," I said, already eager to get back outside.
"Yes, yes, run along now," Mr. Slink waved us off, his smile never fading.
