ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 89“… What on earth?”
Even this was just her delusion.
That can’t be true. Judith definitely heard the word “devil” spoken by the priest in a gentle voice like a spring breeze.
Perhaps the devil was once again trying to push her into despair. If so, who could that devil be? Derrick? Or Lucas, who pities her foolish self for not being able to forget his superior?
Or perhaps… Hannibal?
Judith collapsed to the ground in a daze. The startled priest hurriedly helped her up.
“Are you okay, Miss?”
Her vision was spinning. The priest had definitely said the word “devil,” but he looked as if he had never said such a thing.
She had experienced something similar before. During the hunting contest, when noblewomen with red eyes lunged at her, she remembered the scene vividly, yet she was the only one who did. It felt as if the nightmare was repeating, making her hair stand on end.
Even though she escaped the fierce power struggle of the devils, why is she still…
At that moment, the door to the small chapel creaked open from behind.
“Miss! What happened?”
The knight, who had been waiting, opened the door to the small chapel after the promised 15 minutes. He found Judith collapsed and rushed to help her up. Drawing his long, straight silver sword, he pointed it at the priest.
“What did you do to the lady?!”
“No, it was nothing serious.”
Judith, holding her forehead in urgency, spoke quickly in the tense situation that seemed about to erupt into violence. The knight, still pointing his sword at the priest, glanced sideways to check her condition. Only after confirming she was unhurt did he sheath his sword.
“I’m sorry. I’ve been a bit out of it lately.”
Judith quickly apologized, thinking the priest must have been quite shocked by the sudden appearance of the sword. The priest, who had been blinking in surprise, shook his head with a gentle smile, indicating it was okay.
Leaving the small chapel with a sense of dejection, Judith looked back at the Bible passage the priest had pointed to several times, wondering who the “He” referred to there might be.
“Are you really okay, Miss? If that man acted rudely earlier…”
“No, really, I’m fine. It was just that my legs gave out for a moment.”
Judith replied as nonchalantly as she could, but her face remained uneasy.
Outside, Judith briefly looked up at the massive temple building. The white facade was very clean, but it gave off a chilling feeling. The shiver she felt when she heard the word “devil” returned, and she rubbed her arms involuntarily.
Judith, deciding to return to the mansion, got into the carriage but jumped before closing the door. There was a square shaped letter on the seat she was about to sit on.
“Excuse me.”
Judith hurriedly opened the carriage window before it started. The knight on horseback looked at her.
“Did anyone come to the carriage while I was in the temple?”
The knight quickly asked those guarding the carriage. The answer came back quickly.
