The hospital door creaked open, and her father, Edwind, strode into the room, his face a mask of grim indifference. His eyes, usually filled with disdain, scanned her with a cold, calculating gaze.
“I’m just here to check on you,” he said, his voice laced with a chilling detachment.
Aurora’s heart ached. Edwind had never been a loving father. He’d always favored her younger sister, Luna, the golden child, the one who could do no wrong. He’d never understood Aurora, never truly seen her. His words, his actions, had always made her feel like a burden, a disappointment.
"You know," he continued, his voice taking on a venomous tone, "You’re the only reason why your mother is so stressed. You always cause trouble."
Aurora clenched her fists, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill. She knew it was useless. Her father’s words were like a poison that seeped into her soul, draining her of any remaining hope.
Her mother, Elizabeth, stood just behind Edwind, her face etched with a mixture of pity and disapproval. She was always on the sidelines, watching, judging, never truly offering support or solace. She had always been more concerned with appearances, with maintaining the facade of a perfect family, than with the actual well-being of her children.
“You know, we could have had a better life if you hadn't gotten sick,” her mother said, her voice laced with a cruel indifference that pierced Aurora’s heart.
Tears finally streamed down Aurora's face. She felt so alone, so unloved, so utterly insignificant. She realized that even in her final moments, her family’s hatred was a heavy weight she couldn’t escape.
