Y/N sat patiently as the doctor checked her temperature, the old woman watching from the side. The doctor smiled and explained, "Everything is fine. Nothing unorthodox is going on."
The woman nodded, and they both faced Y/N again. She felt uncomfortable and nervous with their eyes on her.
The doctor turned to the old woman and whispered, not very quietly, "There's something wrong with her though. It's like this mysterious energy coming from her, it's like no other. She's very strong on the inside. Though look's weak and frail from the outside." Y/N could understand most words, making her even more uneasy, with a tad bit of curiosity.
When the doctor said, "You can button your kimono back up; I'm done with the check-up," they heard a knock before Tengen walked in. He expressed his gratitude to the old woman, "Thank you for letting me stay for a day to recover from my mission. I'm getting ready to leave now." He stopped talking when he saw Y/N buttoning her kimono. His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, he smirked and he quickly slid the shoji door closed.
After the doctor left, the old woman told Y/N, "You are well-rested, well-fed, and ready to go on another mission. I wish you best of luck dear." She handed Y/N a clean uniform and set her off. Y/N's eyes went wide. How was she supposed to explain that she wasn't a slayer and had randomly appeared here? Should she just go along with it?
She nervously scratched her head as the woman bowed and handed her some wisteria flowers and a japanese book that read, "japanese for beginners" for her journey. Y/N bowed back nervously and started walking, not knowing where to go. Her eyes lit up when she saw Tengen and approached him, calling out to his name. When he stopped to look at her, she froze and blushed.
"Now, how do you know my name?" He tilted his head and crossed his arms.
"U-uh.. The kind lady.. she mentioned your name!.." She lied.
He looked her up and down, "And what are you doing here following me? Trying to catch a glimpse of my flashiness?" He posed out of nowhere."I... I have nowhere to go and has zero survival skills, please if you could.. can you uhm- " she said slowly, looking at him. "Wait, wait, wait." He stopped to try and process this.
Tengen raised an eyebrow, "Are you even a slayer?"Embarrassed, she shook her head.
Tengen smirked, "I'll take you under my wing and turn you into a flashy, flamboyant slayer. You'll be strong in no time! Your training begins now!" He then ran off.
Y/N gasped, her eyes wide. "Shit, he's fast!" She wanted to catch up to him and started running. Surprisingly, she felt a rush in her body, making her faster than she had ever been. She was only three feet behind Tengen. It feels as if her feet were moving itself from how fast she was.
"Keep up, or you'll never be a slayer!" Tengen called back, glancing over his shoulder with a grin.
Y/N pushed herself harder, determined not to fall behind. "I'm trying!" she shouted, feeling a mix of excitement and fear.
As they ran through the forest, Tengen slowed down slightly to run alongside her. "So, what's your story? How did you end up here if you're not a slayer? Plus you don't have a Japanese accent. Are you a foreigner or something?"
Y/N panted, trying to keep her breath steady. "I... I'm from New york. And, One moment I was in my world, and the next, I was here."
Tengen looked intrigued. "New York? You mean you're not from Japan at all?"
She nodded. "Yeah, it's all so weird confusing. I don't even know how to survive here."
Tengen chuckled. "Well, you're in luck. You've got me to teach you. And trust me, you'll be the flashiest slayer in no time."
Y/N couldn't help but smile at his confidence. "Thank you. I really appreciate it."
They continued running until they reached a clearing. Tengen stopped and turned to face her. "Alright, let's see what you've got. Show me your stance."
Y/N hesitated, unsure of what to do. "My stance?"
Tengen nodded. "Yes, your fighting stance. Every slayer needs a strong foundation."
She awkwardly positioned herself, trying to mimic what she had seen in movies. Tengen shook his head, laughing. "No, no, that's all wrong. Here, let me show you."
He moved behind her, gently adjusting her arms and legs. Y/N felt her heart race as he got close. "Like this," he said, his voice low and steady. "You need to be balanced, ready to move at any moment."
Y/N tried to focus on his instructions, but his proximity was distracting. "Okay, I think I've got it."
Tengen stepped back, observing her. "Better. Now, let's see how you handle a sword."
He handed her a practice sword, and Y/N took it nervously. "I've never used one of these before."
"Don't worry," Tengen said with a reassuring smile. "We'll start with the basics."
They spent the next hour practicing basic sword techniques. Tengen was patient, correcting her form and encouraging her. Despite her initial clumsiness, Y/N began to feel more confident.
"You're doing great," Tengen said, wiping sweat from his brow. "You've got potential."
Y/N blushed at the compliment. "Thanks. It's all thanks to your teaching."
Tengen grinned. "Well, I am pretty amazing, aren't I?"
Y/N laughed, feeling a sense of camaraderie forming between them. "Yeah, you are."
As the sun began to set, Tengen called for a break. They sat down on a fallen log, catching their breath. "So, tell me more about That, 'New york.'" Tengen said, genuinely curious.
Y/N thought for a moment. "It's very different from here. We don't have demons or slayers. People live normal lives, going to work, school, and spending time with family and friends."
Tengen listened intently. "It sounds peaceful."
"It can be," Y/N replied. "But it can also be stressful. There's a lot of pressure to succeed and fit in."
Tengen nodded. "I see. Well, here, you'll find a different kind of challenge. But I believe you can handle it."
Y/N smiled, feeling a sense of determination. "I hope so."
As they continued talking, Y/N felt a growing connection with Tengen. Despite the strange circumstances, she felt grateful to have met him. He was kind, strong, and had a way of making her feel safe.
"Alright," Tengen said, standing up. "Let's head to my estate. We've got a lot of training to do tomorrow."
Y/N stood up as well, feeling a mix of exhaustion and excitement. "Okay. Thank you for everything, Mr Uzui." She bowed.
He smiled and shook his head, "Do please call me tengen."Her face flushed, "T-thank's tengen.."
He smiled warmly. "You're welcome. Now, let's get you ready to become the 2nd flashiest slayer this world has ever seen."
