You know how they say your life flashes before your eyes when you're about to die? Well, for me, it wasn't quite like that. There were no grand epiphanies, no life-changing realizations. Just the cold, hard screech of tires and the sudden crunch of metal. One moment, I was stepping off the curb, thinking about how much I hated my job, and the next—darkness.
So this is it? I thought as I floated in what could only be described as nothingness. I wasn't even sure if I was still thinking. The blackness felt so... final. My mind, my body—everything just felt like it was slipping away, sinking into some vast, endless void.
Honestly, I couldn't even muster the energy to panic. It was more like resignation. A part of me always felt like I wasn't really living my life anyway. Wake up, work, eat, sleep, repeat. A boring cycle I'd been stuck in for years. No risks. No excitement. Just... nothing.
And now? Well, nothing had come for me, it seemed.
That's when I heard the voice.
"Do you wish to continue your existence?"
It wasn't a voice, exactly. Not like a human's. More like an echo that rippled through the void. And yet, it was clear as day.
Continue? Was that even an option? I thought death was the end of the line, but now it seemed like I was being offered something else. Another chance?
"Yes," I thought, the word forming in my mind faster than I could process. If there was something—anything—beyond this emptiness, I wanted to experience it.
Warmth bloomed from the core of my being, a spark that grew and grew until the void itself was swallowed by light. It felt like being reborn.
"Rebirth granted. Welcome, Elemental Wisp."
And just like that, everything changed.
