The rustled sound of leaves and the relaxing sounds of the waterfall reached the little boy who was lying unconscious on the ground.
The boy was about six years old. His arms and knees were smeared with mud and some places were bleeding from scratches. But one could see the uninjured skins were as white as snow.
His shoulder-length hair was also white, making almost everyone think he was suffering from albinism.
Eyelashes fluttered and slowly opened. His blue eyes looked at the scenery in front with confusion and nervousness. He slowly got up from the ground, the pain in his knees was burning.
"Hiss—"
He looked at his short hands and feet in astonishment that he momentarily forgot the pain.
"Where is this? What happened to me? How did I become so small?" A lot of questions appeared one after another making his already small head painful.
Some vague scene of a young boy continuously flashed past his eyes, before he could catch some of them, he heard his name being called.
"Meng Di! Meng Di! Where are you?"
Hearing that sound, Men Di suddenly felt his eyes getting blurry and hot with tears, and a sudden feeling of being wronged appeared on his face. He couldn’t control himself and moved his injured body towards the sound.
"Mom!"
Then a woman around thirty appeared before him. The concern on her face couldn’t be more genuine, she quickly reached out to hold his shaky figure.
"Meng Di, what happened? Why are you bruised like this?"
"Mom. I—" Men Di didn’t finish his line before passing out.
The next time Men Di opened his eyes, it was already dusk. He had a long dream. In his dream, the life of a little boy unfolded.
The 'Meng Di' of this world was only six years old. As long as he can remember, it was only his mother and him in the family. He didn’t know who his father was.
He and his mother lived in a small village on the outskirts of the Tianduo Empire. But because he was born without a father and his unique appearance, everyone in the village avoided him and his mother as a scourge. He was frequently bullied by the village kids.
But his life was very peaceful with his mother. His mother, Xu Lin, is a fortune teller. So, their income was very low, and they hardly passed their days with two meals a day.
"You are awake? How are you feeling?" Xu Lin pushed open the door and saw Men Di spacing out. She touched his forehead with the back of her palm to test the temperature, finding it normal, she silently breathed a sigh of relief.
"Are you in a bad mood?" She asked slowly and dotingly.
Men Di, who was already in his twenties in his previous life, felt ashamed to be coaxed like this. He was the powerful heir of the Star Demon God pilled. He had never been coaxed like this by anyone. He didn’t even know if all mothers like to coax their children. He never met his mother in his previous life. He never heard his scumbag father mention her either.
His face burned in shame, "No."
"Tomorrow you have to awaken your martial spirit. How about I tell you some stories of soul masters?" Xu Lin continued to coax.
Men Di, who was reborn in this new world, was extremely curious about this, so he nodded.
Xu Lin smiled and said, "In our Soul Land, the soul masters are the noblest humans. They possess a martial soul and soul power. They cultivate their soul power to raise their level; as the level gets higher, they become more powerful. There are ten great ranks. Each rank consists of ten levels. Each rank requires a soul ring to advance to the next rank."
"Soul ring?" Men Di spoke his doubt.
"They are the condensed soul power of soul beasts. Only soul beasts are capable of creating soul rings when they die." Xu Lin paused and then said, "Okay, that's enough. Go freshen up, the rice is already ready."
Men Di looked at her fleeting back and went to wash up. When the first bite of hot food entered his stomach, he remembered how hungry he was. But he didn’t forget to ask, "Mom, do all people have martial souls?"
"Yes. Almost everyone, but there are always exceptions." Xu Lin smiled and replied.
"Why is everyone not a soul master? Is it because of soul power?"
"Hey! My son is so smart! Yes."
Men Di could not stand this teasing. "Mom!"
"Okay okay. Look at you, you are so shy!" Xu Lin laughed at him unscrupulously. "Are you afraid about tomorrow?"
Men Di looked at her and nodded uncertainly. "Mom, what will be my martial soul?"
Xu Lin became expressionless as she thought about it. "I don't know."
She suddenly took out a card from nowhere and said to him with a smile. "Look. This is my martial soul, the Fortune Card. With this, I can spy on some truth, but my innate soul power is too low. My martial soul is limited. I can never be a soul master in my life."
"You don't have to be nervous about tomorrow; we can still live a good life with this stupid fortune-telling." Xu Lin laughed but she seemed to be sad.
Men Di lowered his head. He was not a real child. He could guess exactly what was bothering his mother.
One's future vastly depends on one's martial soul and soul power. The better the martial soul, the bigger the chance of becoming a powerhouse in the future.
Men Di thought, if he couldn’t awaken a good martial soul and high soul power tomorrow, their mother and son could continue to live like this, with everyone’s contempt.
The next day, Xu Lin woke Men Di up really early. Carefully groomed him up from top to bottom with the little things they had. He got to wear his new shirt and a pair of new shoes. Finally, Xu Lin meticulously tied his white hair in a low ponytail. If not for Men Di's strong resistance, she would have tied a bow!
"Don't be nervous. It's just a martial soul awakening. We will continue to live our days happily in the future." Xu Lin smiled at him lovingly.
Men Di felt a pang in his heart. Having faced high expectations of his scumbag father till the day he died, he never felt this type of real care from his parents.
"I am not nervous. Mom, we will live well." Even if he couldn’t awaken a good martial soul or soul power. There were plenty of other ways to change their fate.
"Hm. I know, my son is the best!" She took him to the village head, "Go."
Men Di nodded at her and followed the village head. The village head didn’t have any hope for him, just giving a sidelong gaze.
They reached the martial soul branch of their province, which is responsible for awakening the martial souls of three villages.
"Hey, this time we only have four kids from our village."
"We have five."
"At least you have four or five kids. Our village only has one kid who is six years old."
The three village heads started their discussion about their villages' future.
Men Di, being the only kid from his village, was cast out among the children. He carefully observed other kids who were excited and nervous, and suddenly realized his future in this world was about to decide.
So, he decided.
From now on, he would be 'Meng Di'.
