Cameron
Time ceased to exist as we all stared each other down, each one of us silently daring the other to move. It was impossible though, we were currently a circle of three different people, so the probability of anyone backing down anytime soon was actually quite low.
“What the hell was that supposed to mean?” Bennett spoke up, something unreadable lying underneath his words. I knew exactly what it was, but I ignored it. I wasn't going to indulge him yet.
“Cameron!” He yelled again after not getting a response from me. If he wasn't careful, I still wouldn't answer him and he would have to make do with that, whether he liked it or not. “Have you suddenly gone dead?”
“It depends on who's asking.” I finally quipped. “Have you finally come to your senses now?”
“What is wrong with you?” Bennett seethed. “ What the fuck has gotten into you?”
“Definitely what hasn't gotten to you.” I smirked. “Does that make any sense?”
I had no intention of bumping into him. If I was being honest, I didn't even want to see him. But as I saw both Bennett and Emily with Alyssa, I just knew nothing good would come out of it.
I wanted to leave, wanted to walk just right past them until I caught a glimpse of Alyssa's face. She was mostly quiet, but her eyes and her facial expressions said it all. She was dying, on the inside, outside, everywhere and she was literally stabbing herself and pushing the wound deeper and deeper by always being around those two.
Was she allergic to happiness? I thought she was supposed to be the sunshine of the entire class, so why was she headed in the direction of gloom and pain? Or was this some kind of sick plot to try to change Bennett and Emily? It could work for Bennett maybe, but Emily? In fact, I was being honest, there was no way in hell it would work for any of them…..
“Enough of this.” Bennett's growl cut through my monologue. All I had to do was blink once and my brother was already in front of me. Step brother, actually. “I've had just about enough of this…”
“Why?” I tilted my head to the side, a smirk playing on my lips. “Is it because it reminds you of the kind of person you are? Are you disgusted by your own personality and how much of a jerk you are?”
“What do you know about personality?” Bennett let out through gritted teeth. “You're literally the social outcast of the school. No one likes you…”
“And yet you're screwing the head cheerleader even with your spotless personality.” I was making him mad, and in all honesty, I was enjoying it. A lot. I guess running into him wasn't as bad as I thought. “Talk about a personality clash right there…”
“Watch it.” Bennett's hands grabbed the collar of my denim jacket. I staggered a bit, but that was the only reaction Benny boy could get out of me. Even though he was the quarterback of the football team, he couldn't take me on, even in his dreams. “Watch it or else….”
“Babe, I really don't think he's worth our time.” Emily cooed from the corner. “Just leave him.”
“Emily, stay out of this…”
“Actually, your dumbo girlfriend might have a point.” I grinned. “Even she knows you don't stand a chance.”
“I didn't say that.” The words rushed past Emily's list the moment Bennett turned to her. “ I just think we should leave.”
“Yes, leave Benny boy.” I clicked my tongue. “Listen to your loser girlfriend.”
“You're trying to bait me.” Bennett mused, before letting go of my collar. Like a bird had just pooped on my jacket, all it took was a swipe of my hand to get rid of the feel of Bennett's hands all over me. “I don't have time for all of this.”
“Right.” I nodded. “Or perhaps, you just really want to get to your shagging appointment. I get it. What I don't get is what you saw in her though? Was it the breast implants? Or perhaps…”
“Cameron!” It was Emily's turn to screech now. “How dare you? How could you- don't you even dare…”
“Save it for someone who'll actually listen.” With a flourish, I spun on my heels and headed in the other direction. “Probably Benny boy.”
“Stop calling me that!” Benny's yells were the last thing that resonated around the hall as I walked towards my direction. What I didn't expect, was bumping into a certain somebody by this time of the day.
“Yooo! Watch it man!” It was hard to tell if he was actually mad or not from the tone he let out. I hadn't realized who he was yet, but a loud groan slid past my lips the moment I did. “Cameron!”
“What are you doing here?” I blinked angrily. “What the hell are you doing here?!”
“Last time I checked.” Sebastian gave a pout. “You don't own this school and I have every right to be wherever I want to be.”
“No you don't.” I shot back. “Literally none of your classes are in this block, so what the fuck are you doing here?”
“Rude much?” I scoffed at Sebastian's antics. “What if I told you I was looking for you?”
“Why? Why would you be looking for me?”
“Because you suddenly have an interesting life now.” I watched as Sebastian swiped a finger across the screen of his phone. Upon a closer look, I realized he was on the school's blog site. “And I intend to keep up with every single thing.”
“So you're stalking me now?” This guy was unbelievable. “ Is that what you're saying?”
“Definitely not.” Sebastian scoffed. “Stalking is a bit of a harsh word, I prefer the term, being in the right place at the right time.”
“Fuck off.” I shook my head as I continued my journey. One of the ways I got by in school was by not having to see the likes of Sebastian, and I wanted to keep it that way, for as long as I could.
“I will, once you answer me this.” I shouldn't have waited, but I did and it didn't take too long for me to regret it. “ How's our date coming along?”
“You're joking.” I turned to my friend. “ You're freaking joking.”
“I'm not.” Sebastian's tone grew serious immediately. “I swear to hell I'm not.”
“You can't be serious.” I shook my head. “I didn't think you meant it. We didn't even make it official…”
“I just did.” A chill ran down my spine at his words. “I dare you to ask Alyssa out on a date.”
What the?
