Aubrey rubs his chin and looks at the sky. The sunset is gorgeous. The warm hues of pink orange and yellow create a harmonious melody in the bright, evening sky. All kinds of plants around the perimeter of Kendrick's house reflect the warm sun. Did Kendrick plant them himself? Or was it all fake like his affection? Drake sighs. Maybe it was all too good to be true.
The driver briefly talks to the security as Aubrey nervously looks around the neighbourhood. He bites at his nails, accidentally tearing away at his skin.
"Ouchie!" Aubrey yelps, looking at the blood pooling around the cut. He winces as a small trickle of blood runs down his bony finger. "Just another thing to worry about..." He exhales.
Drake looks up at the security gates ahead of the car. They open slowly with a loud clang. Aubrey quickly turns around as the car moves forward through the monogrammed gates. They shut behind the car with a loud click. Aubrey wishes he could be here forever.
He unbuckles his seatbelt and grabs his purse before the driver parks the car. Closing his eyes, he takes a deep breath. He opens his eyes to find his car door already open for him. He smiles to himself and gracefully gets out of his Range Rover.
He nervously walks up the driveway. His bag sways with his stride. His heels clack across the stone driveway. Aubrey feels like the best version of him. He hums to himself and writes lyrics in his notes app on his pink iPhone 15. He tucks his phone away in his bag as he reaches the front door.
"Hello! Is anyone home?" Aubrey calls out before ringing the doorbell. No one answers. "Shoot." He mutters to himself.
He waits for what feels like forever. He sighs and grabs his phone out of his bag and opens up Instagram.
Hey Kendrick I'm here open up fam xx
Aubrey shoves the phone in his bag grumpily and folds his arms. A loud beep rings his ears.
Message not sent. This user only accepts messages from friends.
"W-wha-" Drake exclaims as he looks at his phone. He could've sworn they were following each other... right?
Drake's vision blurs and blackens. He grabs onto the wall to stabilise himself. He hurriedly dials J Cole's number and holds his phone to his ear.
"What's up?"
"I don't feel well... can you pick me up in about an hour? From Kendrick's house..."
"Why are you there?"
"Doesn't matter fam. Are you picking me up or not?"
"Fine."
J Cole abruptly ends the call as Aubrey was still speaking.A click can be heard from inside the house. The front door opens a crack to reveal Whitney standing from inside.
"Drake? What are you doing here?" Whitney says quietly."I thought Kendrick told you not to come around anymore."
"He's not answering my messages and calls. I was worried so I came around to check on him." Drake says, running his feet over the welcome mat.
"Seriously. You need to get over him and stop coming around."
"W-wait! I-"
She slams the door in his face.
"Kendrick! You have a visitor!" Whitney yells angrily from inside. She sounds distorted and far away. Everything sounds distorted and far away.
Drakes vision fades in and out as he waits for Kendrick to greet him.
He is taken back to the day he met Kendrick. It was a cold winter morning. Aubrey rolls out of bed with a smile. He opens his sliding doors in his bedroom and leans against the balcony railing. It was cold and smooth to the touch. He runs a finger across the surface in awe. Aubrey exhales into the air leaving only a cloud of smoke. It dissipates into the air leaving no trace. He closes his eyes and lets the chilly breeze calm him. "Good morning neighbourhood!" He exclaims.
