Kritika's pov
I grabbed my bike and house keys and went out of my room. As I sat on the dining table to have breakfast, my phone buzzed. I looked at the caller ID and smiled as my mother's number appeared. I answered the call and the first thing I heard was.
"Tu call kyu nahi uthati hai mera? Kitni baar call Kiya maine tujhe. Khana khaya tune? Office kab jaegi? Ab bol kyu nahi rahi hai? " I sigh because she didn't even let me speak and started her question-question session.
(Why don't you pick up my calls? I called you so many times. Did you have your breakfast? When will you leave for the office? Now, why aren't you speaking?)"Aap bolne doge tab bolungi na."
(If you'll let me speak then only, I'll speak, right.)"Achha matlab ab maine roka hai tujhe?"
(Ohh, so I have stopped you?)"Nahi mata shree! Meri hi galti hai."
(No dear mother! It's my fault only)"Vo toh hai hi. Chal bata ab" she said making me close my eyes.
(That's clearly true. Now, tell me.)"Call nahi utha payi kyuki mai taiyar ho rahi thi. Aur khana bas khane baithi hu. Aur office ke liye bhi khana kha kar nikal jaungi. Aap batao ab?"
(I didn't pick up the phone because I was getting ready. And I have just sat to have breakfast. And I'll leave for the office after having breakfast. Now, you tell me?)"Kuch nahi. Theek hai mai phone rakhti hu. Bye!"
(Nothing, I'll disconnect the call now. Bye!)"Aree! Suno toh!" I tried to speak but she disconnected the call. What is this behavior? Before even listening to me, she disconnected the call. Huh!
(Aree! Listen to me!)After finishing breakfast, I locked the house and headed out. I put on my helmet and left for my current office. Why current office? Because I'm on the post of sub-inspector in the special crime branch. I have visited almost 3-4 cities till now and currently I'm in Mumbai. My parents live in Sonipat, Haryana. I have been living in Mumbai in a rental house for the past 3 months and also have not visited my parents since then.
As I reached outside of the building, I parked my bike in the parking lot. I sighed and then closed my eyes for once and took out the helmet and the emotions which my eyes held till now were gone. I went inside and found my juniors sitting on their desks already doing their assigned tasks. I was about to enter my room when I heard someone hiss. I took a step back and found one of my juniors, Viraj playing games on his mobile.
I stepped closer to him silently and then placed my hand on his shoulder. His body tensed at my touch and the phone dropped from his hands. He turned back and looked at me as if his soul had left the body.
"Mam, I'm sorry. This useless ph_phone is responsible for everything. I_i will stop using it. I'm sorry mam." He kept blabbering but I just hummed and left from there.
Author's POV
The boy kept staring at the door of Kritika's office in pure shock. The reason for his reaction was Kritika's behaviour towards them, she was strict, actually very strict and your single mistake could ruin your whole week. But today, he was playing a game on his phone, but his senior didn't even say a single word to him.
He, then picked his phone and got back to his work. Not playing but doing his assigned work. The whole department was trying to track a human trafficking gang. They were working on it for the past three months, but they weren't able to catch them as they always used to escape before they could even reach them.
