Change of Plans

With the glass door covered with wet newspapers, cutting off the infected's line of sight on us, the rest of us were left alone to ponder what to do. The big guy in the blue suit was understandably upset with the other man who shut the door on him and his wife, going as far as to say that he'd feed them to the infected. Thankfully, his wife was able to de-escalate the situation before it could actually get that far.

All of a sudden, a voice spoke out from the speakers. At least the conductor was still alive.

(Attention, everyone. Due to our current situation, we won't be stopping in Cheonan. For your safety, please remain in your seats.)

The crowd of people begin to exclaim while I just let out a low sigh, rubbing my head. How the hell did I go from an hour train ride to this mess? I see a man in a suit heading towards the back of the car and pressing a button on the wall, contacting the conductor. And judging by the way he spoke to the conductor, he was an asswipe.

(Maybe we should take the chance to get to know each other?)

Blue suited man: 괜찮아. (Alright. I am Sang-hwa. This is my wife, Seong-kyeong.)

He pats the pregnant woman's shoulder. She bows her head at me with a small smile.

(Hello. Your Korean is very good.)

(Thank you. But I still have a lot to learn about the language.)

Seong-kyeong: Would you prefer I speak in English?

Y/n: Um... Yeah. Sure.

Sang-hwa: You been in Korea long?

Y/n: Not really. About... two months. Slightly longer.

Seong-kyeong: Do you have parents?

Y/n: No. I was on my way to a foster home in Busan.

Seong-kyeong: O-Oh. I'm sorry. I... I didn't mean to offend you.

Y/n: It's okay. You didn't know.

She nods, clearing her throat to cover up her embarrassment. I rub the back of my head as I look over at the covered door.

Sang-hwa: Try not to think about it.

The train abruptly slows, prompting me to hold onto a seat to stop myself from falling. The crowd around us mutters, confused. I frown before realising we were passing through a station. Looking out the window, we see people trying to get on, screaming and begging to be let on. But the train didn't stop once, nor did the doors open. Anyone that was trying to get in, were quickly dragged away by more infected, who devoured them.

Sung-hwa covers my eyes.

Sung-hwa: You shouldn't be seeing that.

If only he knew just what I had seen...

My sights turn back to the door and I get a little nervous. Considering how many there were, what stopped them from breaking the door down?

Y/n: Call me paranoid, but I think we should barricade that door.

Sung-hwa: Why?

Y/n: I'd just rather not take the chance that they'll leave that door alone. It'd probably be good if we moved further up the train too to put some distance between us and the infected.
