Ah, New Orleans.
With beautiful architecture, jazz music, and delicious gumbo, what's not to love?
Rain. Rain's what's not to love.
You, Nancy, and Bess have decided to take a little vacation to the beautiful city of New Orleans, and, as a favor for Ned, you and Nancy are stopping to check on Henry Bolet, a friend of Ned's that he knows from Emerson College back in Illinois (though you're skeptical about the them being "friends" part). His great uncle had passed away recently, so Ned wanted to make sure he's dealing with his loss alright. No offense to Bess, but you really didn't feel like staying cooped up in that hotel room all day, even if it was raining. So, you headed over to the Bolet mansion with Nancy by taxi.
"You coming?" Nancy asks, peering at you through the opened door of the black and white taxi.
"Yeah, just- hang on," you respond, your voice strained. You struggle with the seatbelt a bit—you press down really hard against the release button several times—but eventually manage to escape its hold. You slip out of the car, the rubber soles of your black high tops thumping against the wet ground as you stand. The rain pours down heavily, and you're forever thankful that you brought your trusty hoodie with you. Despite the extra protection, the rain still soaks through your clothes, including your jeans; the leg hems also drag against the ground a bit, drenching the light fabric in the rain that covers the sidewalk.
Damn modern fashion trends...
"There we go, finally! Okay, ready."
Nancy gives you a small nod and a smile before turning around and heading for the mansion, the rain's pitter patter mixing in with the sound of her kitten heels click click clicking against the cobblestone. You slam the door shut and follow behind the titian-haired woman, and the sound of the taxi driving off is heard from behind you.
Lightning strikes as you make your way up to the mansion, making you jump a bit. At the entrance, Nancy knocks on the wooden door, receiving no response. She goes ahead and pushes on the door; it opens up easily.
"Hello? Anyone here?" she calls out, walking into the foyer. You peek your head in through the door way, hesitantly following right behind Nancy. You note that the floor is dirty, with big, muddy footprints staining the hardwood floor heading into the closest room. You follow the footprints up to where Nancy stands. You see someone looming over something, their long black coat and wide brimmed hat making it difficult to see what they really look like from behind.
"Hi... the door was open." Nancy speaks up, the figure turning around to face the both of you. You and Nancy gasp at the sight of the person's face, a skull mask concealing their identity.
Suddenly, a huge flash of lightning causes the electricity to go out, illuminating their figure in an ominous way. Next thing you know, they're gone!
You whip your head around in search of the person, and when you're looking straight ahead again, they suddenly appear in front of both of you. You and Nancy yelp in surprise and stumble backwards. Next thing you know, a cloud of mysterious dust is thrown at the both of you, immediately making your guys' visions go black. Your bodies lay limp on the cold, hard ground of the foyer, the person stepping around your unconscious bodies. Without a sound, they slip out the front door.
