# Chapter 6: Alexander Says Goodbye

---

Months had passed since Leigh and Alexander had made the painful decision to separate. Leigh had thrown himself into his studies, trying to rebuild his life without Alexander. His days were filled with lectures, assignments, and occasional outings with Sarah, who had been his unwavering support through it all.

But no matter how hard he tried to move on, Leigh couldn't escape the lingering pain and the constant thought of Alexander. It was a quiet afternoon when Leigh received a message that reignited all his buried emotions.

*We need to talk. Can you come over tonight?* - Alexander

Leigh's heart skipped a beat. He hadn't seen or heard from Alexander since their breakup. He took a deep breath, his mind racing with possibilities. Why now? What did Alexander want to talk about? Despite his better judgment, Leigh knew he had to go.

---

That evening, Leigh found himself standing in front of Alexander’s penthouse. The memories of their time together flooded back, making his heart ache. With a deep breath, he knocked on the door. It opened almost immediately, and there stood Alexander, looking as handsome and composed as ever, but with a sadness in his eyes that Leigh hadn’t seen before.

“Leigh,” Alexander said softly, stepping aside to let him in.

“Alexander,” Leigh replied, his voice barely a whisper.

They walked to the living room, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words. Alexander gestured for Leigh to sit, and then he took a seat across from him.

“I’m glad you came,” Alexander began, his voice steady but filled with a quiet intensity.

Leigh nodded, feeling a lump form in his throat. “What did you want to talk about?”

Alexander took a deep breath, his gaze never leaving Leigh’s. “Leigh, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking. About us, about everything that’s happened.”

Leigh’s heart pounded in his chest. He knew where this was going, but he wasn’t sure he was ready to hear it.

“I love you, Leigh,” Alexander continued, his voice breaking slightly. “I always will. But I’ve come to realize that my world… it’s not fair to you. It’s not safe.”

Leigh’s eyes filled with tears. “Alexander, we’ve been through this. We can face anything together.”

Alexander shook his head, his expression pained. “No, Leigh. I thought we could, but I was wrong. I’ve put you in danger time and time again, and I can’t keep doing that. You deserve better. You deserve a life free from fear and danger.”

Leigh’s tears flowed freely now. “So what are you saying?”

Alexander reached out, taking Leigh’s hand in his. “I’m saying we need to break up, for real this time. No more lingering hopes or dreams. You need to move on, find someone who can give you the life you deserve.”

Leigh’s heart shattered. He pulled his hand away, standing up abruptly. “How can you say that? After everything we’ve been through?”

“Because I love you too much to keep hurting you,” Alexander said, his voice thick with emotion. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, Leigh. But it’s the right thing.”

Leigh shook his head, unable to process the pain. “No, it’s not. It’s not fair.”

Alexander stood, stepping closer but stopping himself. “I know it’s not fair. But it’s necessary. Please, Leigh. Try to understand.”
