Another day in Gardenview. Nothing much was going on right now, except Shelly in her room talking to Astro.
"I don't know what I'm doing wrong." She says, leaning against the wall.
"I can understand how you feel." Astro responds.
"I just wish she could actually... understand that I feel upset." Shelly cups her hands over her face, slightly muffling her words.
Astro tries his best to cheer Shelly up. After a few minutes of comforting, Astro suggests Shelly talk to Vee.
"I- I don't know if I can..." Shelly's hands are shaking.
Astro looks at Shelly, "I know you can do this. Just go up to her and tell her that you feel upset, and work out a way to fix that."
Shelly stays silent for a second before taking a deep breath, "I could try. I'm... hoping nothing goes wrong."
"With what I know about you, I know nothing will." Astro reassures Shelly, "I know you can do this."
Shelly took a deep breath, "I hope you're right."
Shelly found Vee alone, sitting at a bench. She mentally prepared herself for the confrontation. Shelly walked over to Vee, "Vee, w- we need to talk."
"What's up, Shels?" Vee didn't seem bothered by Shelly, but there was something in her gaze that made Shelly tense up a bit.
"I- I've been noticing that... that you sometimes ignore me when I'm trying to tell you something, or talk to you. I... keep seeing you get distracted when I'm rambling to you."
"Mhm..."
"It... It kind of hurts my feelings when you do this, Vee. When we first got together you seemed so eager to listen to me talk, and I remember being so happy that you were-"
"I've been busy, Shels."
"You always say that... You've been saying that for the past week..."
Vee sighed and stood up, "Look, can we.. maybe talk about this later? I kind of have a run to do right now..."
"I-" Shelly was on the verge of tears, "...Yeah. We can t- talk about this... later..."
"Alright, good. Thanks for understanding." Vee walks off, and Shelly runs back to her room, holding back her tears.
It's dark in her room, and she's sobbing into her pillow. Someone knocks on the door, and a soft voice can be heard from the outside, a bit muffled due to them being on the other side of a wall, "Shelly? Are you alright..? You've been in there for about 5 minutes now..."
"Go away..." Shelly mumbles, still sobbing a bit.
"I understand that you're really upset right now, but can I at least come in there and be somewhat of a comfort source?"
Shelly sniffles and stands up, wobbling a bit. She opens the door and Astro meets her eye, "I'm sorry that happened."
"It's... fine."
Astro sighed, "Do you need anything? Water? Chocolate?"
"Water would be nice."
Astro used his magic to get Shelly a cup of water.
The two retreated into Shelly's room, she took a sip of water before putting it on the nightstand, and then laying back down on her bed, she looks up at the ceiling and closes her eyes, "I wish she didn't push me away like this..."
"None of this is your fault."
"It feels like it is."
"I'm sure it isn't."
"She just doesn't... feel like herself anymore. She used to be so happy to see me, and now it's like she's seeing just another... 'coworker' or something.."
"I get that, relationships have their ups and downs, and you seem to be trapped in a muddy valley right now."
Shelly sighs, and rolls over onto her side, "I'm tired."
Astro gets up and out of her bed, "I'll let you sleep then, sweet dreams."
"Night..."
Shelly tried again to talk to Vee the next day.
...And the next.
And the next.
And the next.
And the next...
Nothing.
Until one day, Shelly is fed up with this. She angrily storms over to Vee when she gets the chance. They're in the main Lobby area with the big tree, so there's a few other Toons around, but Shelly doesn't care.
"Vee. I'm done with trying to talk to you and just failing. It's like I'm trying to reason with a brick wall!"
"What are you saying? I always listen to y-"
"NO! You don't! At least not anymore. I said this before, and I'll say it again for the MILLIONTH time, but you are ignoring me! It feels like you're doing this on purpose!"
"Shels, I-"
"Don't call me that! You don't deserve to call me that anymore after your blatant ignorance to my existence! You used to be so happy and excited whenever you saw me, but now it's just like you're seeing a friend of yours that you're still getting to know!"
Vee stays silent.
"It hurts my feelings when you do this! You've BEEN doing this! And I don't know if we can continue doing this..."
"Shelly, I didn't realize you were so upset over this, I..."
Shelly crosses her arms and her expression goes from angry to enraged, "YOU NEVER NOTICED!? What about the first time I talked to you?! You cut our conversation short because you had a 'run to do' when in reality you were just setting up for your next gameshow! Vee, this really hurts me, so I don't know if we can stay together anymore."
Vee is speechless. Some other Toons around are staring at the two, shocked. Shelly sniffles and exhales shakily, "Don't consider this a break-up, but more of just a break. I need some time alone. Come back to me when you've thought about how all of this has been affecting me."
Shelly walks away, and back up to her room.
