TW: Self harm in this story
________________________________________________________________________________
After a difficult but successful day the 118 was heading back from a difficult call. An apartment building was set on fire and Buck had lost a kid. 'I was right there. I could've saved him' Buck kept going over what happened in his mind. Bobby and Eddie were both worrying about Buck. They both know what happens when Buck shuts down. Neither of them want this to happen.
"Hey wanna come over after shift? Chris would love to see you." Eddie asks. He could tell by the way that Buck lit up that he was excited to see Chris. "We can pick up dinner on the way home." Eddie continues. "Pizza!" Buck smiling. Eddie found it adorable how he looked like a little kid sometimes. "Okay get dressed and we can just take my truck." Eddie didn't want Buck driving after what happened today. He didn't want to risk him crashing.
"Hey kid can you come here for a sec?" Bobby asked. Buck complied and went to Bobby's office. "What's up dad?" Buck had seen Bobby as his adoptive dad for years. He knew his birth parents were still close with Maddie, but they hated Buck or at least that is how Buck saw it. "How are you doing? I know losing that kid was rough." Bobby finally asked looking at his son. "I-I don't know." Buck couldn't hold in his feelings anymore. He dropped to his knees and just broke. "I was right there. I was right next to him I could've saved him. I could've saved him. I was so close. He was just a kid." Bobby just sat down next to his son and just wrapped him up in his arms. After a long hug Buck looked at Bobby, "Dad" "yes son" Bobby said confused about what his son was about to say. "Thank you. I know you and mama have a lot on your plate but you both decided to take me in anyway. " Buck said with tears in his eyes. "Oh son, you know we love you. We will always love you." Bobby said placing a kiss on Buck's temple.
Eddie was waiting outside when Buck emerged from the door. "You okay?" Eddie says. Buck couldn't answer, he didn't want to break down in front of Eddie. Eddie took the silence as Buck's answer and pulled him into a tight hug. They stood there for a few minutes as Buck started to tear up a little again. When they finally broke apart Buck had no words.
As they got in the car Buck was kinda quiet. If anyone knew Buck they knew that him being quiet was a bad sign. So Eddie decided to start some type of conversation. " How are you and Mark ?" Eddie asked. What Eddie didn't know was that Buck and Mark were having issues. Mark was always trying to start fights. "We're fine I guess." Eddie was confused but decided it was best to just drop the conversation. Luckily they were pulling into Eddie's driveway soon.
"Buck!" Chris yelled, he was always excited to see his Buck. "Hey superman!" Buck said as he rushed over to him picking up the kid.
"It's fine I got all the food." Eddie said laughing. Eddie had known for years that he loved Buck. He had fallen in love with him after the tsunami. Even during the lawsuit he knew he still loved Buck. Even though Eddie had been pissed off at Buck he still loved him. He loved everything about him. The only issue was Mark. Mark and Eddie were friends he couldn't tell his friend he was in love with his boyfriend who just happened to also be his best friend. He watched as Chris and Buck went inside. He loved how close Buck and Chris were. Introducing Buck to him was the greatest thing Eddie had ever done and he doesn't regret it.
Buck and Chris ended up Chris's room. Chris wanted to show Buck some new tricks his hamster had learned. Buck watched as the hamster climbed all over Chris. Buck loved Chris like he was his own. He laughed as he watched Chris laugh. "Pizzas up" Eddie screamed from the kitchen. Buck and Chris quickly got up and walked in to join Eddie. "Buck how about you pick a movie while me and Chris get drinks." Eddie says. As Buck walks into the living room he got a call. Or course it was Mark. He ignored the call.
"So what movie did you pick Ev?" Eddie called out from behind him. Eddie was the only person he allowed to call him that. Buck hated his name. He even hated when Tommy called him Evan but when Eddie said it, it sounded more calming, Buck loved it. "Um the Karate Kid." Buck said. Eddie laughed, they had seen that movie so many times Chris can quote it. As they all sit down and start the movie Buck's phone is blowing up. Eddie gave Buck a look before saying "Ev you gonna answer that." "Nah" Buck turned his phone onto silent.
It was at this point Eddie started picking up on what was going on. They eventually finished the movie. It was late so Buck ordered an Uber. When it got there Buck had laid Chris down and said goodnight to Eddie.
When Buck got home his light was on. "Where were you?" Mark said sitting on the stairs.
