The office buzzed with activity as I took my first steps into my new role as Grayson's assistant. The morning sun streamed through the big glass windows, casting bright lines across the sleek floors and modern furniture. I felt a mix of excitement and nerves, taking in the polished surroundings that oozed success and sophistication.

My desk, neatly placed near the entrance of the open office, was my new area until I could earn a private office. The people around me were full of energy—the soft hum of conversation, the rhythmic tapping of keyboards, and the occasional ring of phones. It was a little overwhelming, but I tried to focus on the task at hand: getting myself organized. It wasn't the day to make friends, I could do that later.

The first thing I needed to do was get a handle on Grayson's schedule and priorities. I pulled out the detailed paper Jennifer, Grayson's previous assistant, had given me. The notes were packed with information about ongoing projects, upcoming meetings, and important deadlines. I'd gone over it the night before, but now that I was here, it felt intimidating.

As I worked through my list, my phone buzzed with a message from Sarah, the office receptionist.

"Good morning, Leyla! Just a reminder that Grayson wants to see you at 10:00 AM. See you soon!"

I glanced at the clock—9:45 AM. My heart raced. This was it. I quickly grabbed my notepad and made sure I looked presentable in my navy blouse and dark jeans. It wasn't anything fancy, but it had to look professional.

At exactly 10:00 AM, I headed to Grayson's office, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. The hallway leading to his office was lined with framed awards and accolades, showing off the company's success and Grayson's personal achievements. The glass walls of his office gave me a clear view of him—reviewing papers with a serious look on his face.

I knocked lightly on the door, my heart pounding. "Come in," his voice called out, steady and commanding.

I opened the door and stepped inside, trying to keep my nerves in check. Grayson looked up from his desk, meeting my gaze with a mix of familiarity and formality. He stood up and led me to a table in-front of his desk .

I took the seat across from his desk, doing my best to look confident despite the flutter of nerves in my stomach.

Grayson's office was a striking mix of modern and classic. Dark wood furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows offered a sweeping view of the city—both impressive and beautiful.

"So, how's your first day going?" Grayson asked, settling back into his chair.

"Good," I said, trying to sound relaxed. "I'm just getting the hang of things."

"Great," he said, nodding. "Let's go over a few things to make sure we're on the same page about what's coming up and what you'll be handling."

I took out my notepad, ready to take notes. Today was the start of a new life, and I was determined to make a great impression and show him I'm not the stupid girl he left.

I still was very scared. I mean I knew I couldn't just sit there and look at him every day without asking him questions i've been wanting the answer to for years.

He's sitting there looking all confident as if he didn't leave me. He's making me feel like i'm in the wrong here and it's annoying.

"Okay, first thing we have to do is finish the last project, Jennifer mostly did the work all you have to do is finish the papers and have it ready by Friday."

"Okay"

"You're desk outside is for when I'm not in the office or at this specific building, so that's where you'll sit when I'm not here, although I suggest you move your stuff from there to here since i'll be here a lot especially since this is my main office"

"Huh??? I don't get it what do you have to do with anything, my office is outside"

"Well when I'm here your office is the desk your sitting on and that's going to be often"

He shrugs

He shrugs at me as if he didn't just tell me we have to see each other literally every single minute.

What the fuck.

"What. No"

"What do you mean no, you can't just say no i'm your boss"

"Mr. Meadows you actually can't expect me to sit in-front of you for the whole day, five days a week?"

"Actually yes that's what my previous assistants did and that's what we would've talked about if you didn't walk out on me"

"You know why I walked out, stop acting like nothing happened"

"Look if this is going to affect you I can find a switch for you soon"

Oh, that was a dick move and he knows it.
At the same time I literally don't have another job and this one pays for a luxury life, the windows in-front of me showcase the city and I get 2 days off a week.

He knows what my answers going to be but he's going to regret ever doing that.

"Okay fine, I'll move my stuff Grayson no worries!!"

"It's Mr. Meadows or sir"

Oh fuck you

"I heard that Ley"

Oh shit , I said that out loud.

Ley?? So now he wants to call me by my nickname after he wouldn't even let me call him by his first name. Ugh.

"It's Ms. Knight. Now if you don't mind i'm going to go move my stuff since my boss wants me infront of him 24/7 "

A deep chuckle slips out, and for a second I look outside to see who laughed. Turns out it was the asshole infront of me.

I roll my eyes and get to moving my stuff, but he's soon going to regret the decision of making me sit infront of him because I won't let him forget what he did ever.
