CHAPTER 9

Matheo was hunched over a cluttered desk in his office, the dim light of his desk lamp casting shadows over a pile of paperwork. The low hum of the air conditioning was the only sound, broken occasionally by the scratch of his pen. The office was a sanctuary of sorts, a quiet refuge where Matheo could immerse himself in numbers, graphs, and reports without distraction. However, today, that sanctuary was about to be interrupted.

The door swung open with a cheerful creak, and Daniel strode in with an infectious grin plastered across his face. Daniel was a whirlwind of energy, his smile a bright contrast to Matheo's serious demeanor. Despite the unassuming nature of the office space, Daniel seemed to bring with him a gust of enthusiasm.

"Matheo!" Daniel's voice was animated, a stark contrast to the calm, methodical tone of Matheo's work environment. "You wouldn't believe what just happened!"

Matheo barely looked up, absorbed in the intricacies of his financial spreadsheets. "Hey, Daniel. What’s up?" His tone was distracted, eyes fixed on the numbers before him.

Daniel didn’t seem to notice Matheo’s preoccupation. He moved to the edge of the desk, his excitement palpable. "I went on this incredible date last night. Her name’s Yessenia, and she’s absolutely amazing."

The mention of the name “Yessenia” seemed to cut through the fog of Matheo’s focus. He looked up, his attention now fully engaged. "Yessenia?" he repeated, curiosity evident in his voice. "What’s she like?"

Daniel’s face lit up even more at the opportunity to talk about her. He leaned back, savoring the moment. "Well, where do I start? She’s got this incredible energy about her, you know? It’s like she’s always genuinely interested in whatever’s happening around her. We had this great conversation about everything from art to science, and she’s just so... thoughtful. Plus, she’s beautiful, obviously."

Matheo nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Sounds like you had a great time. What do you like most about her?"

Daniel thought for a moment, his eyes shining with admiration. "It’s her kindness, really. She’s so considerate, and she has this way of making everyone around her feel special. We were at this little café, and she was so patient with the waitress, who was having a rough day. It was just really refreshing."

Matheo’s face softened into a smile. "She sounds wonderful, Daniel. It’s rare to meet someone who combines warmth with such genuine curiosity."

Daniel looked at Matheo, a bit surprised by the compliment. "You really think so? I’m so excited about her. I feel like she could be the one I’ve been looking for."

Matheo’s smile grew. "It sounds like you’ve found something truly special."

Daniel’s eyes widened slightly. "You really think so? I haven’t seen you so interested in personal matters before."

Matheo chuckled. "It’s not that I’m not interested; it’s just that when something stands out, it’s worth noting. And from what you’ve told me, she seems remarkable."

There was a brief pause as Daniel absorbed Matheo’s words. "You know," he said slowly, "there’s something kind of funny about this."

Matheo raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Daniel looked thoughtful for a moment. "Well, it’s just that I think I’ve heard of Yessenia before. A friend of mine mentioned her in passing a while back. Apparently, she’s quite well-known in certain circles."

Matheo’s interest was piqued. "Really? In what circles?"

Daniel scratched his head, trying to recall. "My friend was involved in a community event. I think Yessenia was one of the guest speakers or something. She was quite influential in that regard."

Matheo’s eyes widened slightly. "That’s interesting. Yessenia must be quite the person if she’s involved in influential circles."

Daniel nodded, still processing the information. "Yeah, it makes sense. She has this presence about her. I guess I didn’t realize just how involved she might be."

Matheo leaned back in his chair, contemplating. "It sounds like you’ve stumbled upon someone extraordinary. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right about her being the one."

Daniel’s expression shifted from surprise to deep reflection. "I never thought of it that way. I guess I’m just so caught up in how great she is on a personal level that I didn’t connect the dots."

Matheo offered a reassuring smile. "Sometimes, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the moment and overlook the broader picture. But it sounds like you’ve met someone who’s not only wonderful personally but also has a significant impact on those around her."

Daniel’s smile returned, albeit with a touch of awe. "I suppose you’re right. It’s just all so new and exciting."

Matheo nodded, his gaze warm and encouraging. "Enjoy the journey, Daniel. It sounds like you’re on a path to discovering something meaningful. And if she’s as special as you say, I’m sure you’ll find a way to make the most of it."

The conversation shifted back to more casual topics as the two friends continued to chat. But for Daniel, the discussion about Yessenia took on a new dimension.
