رنجش ہی سہی، دل ہی دکھانے کے لئے آ
آ پھر سے مجھے چھوڑ کے جانے کے لئے آ
-
Ranzish hi sahi, dil hi dukhane ke liye aa
Aa phir se mujhe chor ke jane ke liye aa

Even if it's just resentment, come to hurt my heart,
Come back again, even if to leave me.

Bologna, Italy:

I walked back into the room after saying those hurtful words to her. The clock read 3:35 AM, and the room was bathed in a dim, almost haunting light. I glanced at the bed-it was empty.

'Where is she?' I wondered, furrowing my brows. My eyes scanned the room, and then I saw her, curled up on the couch, fast asleep. Without thinking, I stepped toward her. I threw my overcoat onto the bed and loosened my tie as I approached.

Her face was drawn, lines of tension visible even in sleep. It seemed like she was in the middle of a nightmare. The room was mostly dark, save for the soft glow of moonlight streaming through the windows, casting a pale glow on her. I sat down beside her, my eyes lingering on her face. She was wearing a brown hijab, and the tiny pearl on her nose pin glimmered in the moonlight, accentuating her beauty. No matter how much I tried to distance myself, I couldn't deny how striking she was.

As I watched, she stirred, her face scrunching up slightly. Without thinking, my hand moved on its own, gently resting on her forehead. I caressed her softly, and slowly, her breathing steadied, her features relaxing into peace. I smiled without realizing it, watching her, unsure how long I stayed like that, lost in my thoughts.

'I don't want to hurt you, Ayesha... but I'm scared to accept you. I feel like I'm betraying Tara. Even if I accept this relationship, I don't think I'll ever be able to love you... I'm sorry.'

It was late, and exhaustion crept in. I freshened up and finally lay down on the bed. The alarm jolted me awake at 8:00 AM. Groggy, I immediately silenced it, mindful of Ayesha, who was still fast asleep on the couch. After a quick shower, I dressed for the day, wrapping my watch around my wrist with practiced ease.
