The loud taps of raindrops on the window woke Dew up from his slumber.
His dreams had gotten really bizarre lately, alsways relating to him leaving the ministry or his fellow ghouls.
Alpha said it was his mind that tried to guilt trip him into feeling bad for leaving, but his gut feeling told him otherwise. Something was going on, Dew could practically feel it and just waited for it to happen.
Months had passed since they both left for good, trying to build themselves a home in the human world. And for once everything had worked out perfectly fine.
Their apartment wasn't huge, but it belonged to them only, providing Dew with the comforting feeling he had always searched for.The pictures on the wall all showed him or Alpha with their bandmates and there came days where he couldn't look at them, because the memory was simply too painful.
Ghouls were not meant to be alone, that's why there were so many of them and leaving the pack sometimes still made him sick to his stomach.
They hadn't forgotten about him though.
Rain and Mountain had called a few times to catch up and tell him that they missed him.
Every time they hung up Dew had to fight back the tears, because the truth was he also missed them dearly.
Alpha truly was the love of his life, but Rain was his best friend and not being able to see him made him think back to his time in the band more often than he wanted to admit.
His partner had offered often enough to visit them at the ministry, but Dew had always declined. The fear Copia had planted in his heart was hard to get rid of.Said partner was currently serving as a pillow for him. As he saw that the water ghoul awoke from his nap his fingers softly smoothed out the frown on his face.
"What is it droplet?" The hushed voice in which he addressed Dew had an instant relaxing effect.
"I just thought about Rain and the others. I... miss them."
Talking about it didn't make it easier. This time it was even harder to hold back the tears and swallow down the lump that formed in his throat.
It was the soft purr and the deep pity in his partner's lava red eyes that made him look away as the tears started to flow.
Alpha pulled him into a sitting position so he could sit in his lap and hide his face in the crook of his neck. The familiar, soothing scent helped him calm down a little."This must be so hard for you."
Dew suddenly realized that Alpha probably felt similarly, he also had to leave all his friends behind. As if the fire ghoul could read his mind he only chuckled softly "You keep forgetting that all my friends are dead. But Terzo wasn't dumb, he gave a talisman to ghouls that served under him, so we could always reach each other. I'm not as alone as I seem, so don't worry too much about me, baby."
His hands were rubbing comforting circles on Dew's back, making him purr with delight. This domestic life with Alpha by his side was worth any trouble he had with Copia before and he got the feeling that the fire ghoul liked it too.Only after breaking ties with the band Dew understood that his heart yearned for every moment with his partner, for every look passing between them, for every soft kiss and hushed 'I love you'.
This was what he needed for the scars in his soul to heal. Thinking about the fact that they had all the time in the world with each other made him smile, pressing his forehead against Alpha's warm skin.In the middle of their comfortable silence the phone rang.
Dew lifted his head and yawned "Who's that?"
His partner only shrugged, looking like he didn't actually care and wanted to let it ring.
An ominous feeling in Dew's gut told him to better pick up the phone, so the water ghoul untangled himself from Alpha's arms and went over. "Hello?"
"Dew?" Loud noise in the background nearly overshadowed Swiss's voice.
"Hi Swiss, how's it going?" He leaned against the wall, expecting a lot of chit-chat from the multi ghoul.
Instead he was greeted with more banging and yelling from the other end of the line.
"What is going on? Swiss? Talk to me!""Dew, I know you and Alpha have your differences with Papa, but please come back! We could really need your help here..." Swiss's voice trailed off as something seemed to explode right beside him.
"Swiss?" Dew started to panic.
The coughing of the multi ghoul drang through the phone and he rasped "Shit... ugh, I'm fine, but please Dew, hurry!"
Right before the other ghoul hung up Dew could hear Rain calling out in the background "Cirrus, bring the first aid kit, it's bleeding."
"Swiss, what is happening?" Dew yelled at his former bandmate but he didn't answer, leaving him with a sinking feeling in his stomach."You look like you just saw a ghost." Alpha stated as Dew turned around to his lover.
"They're in trouble, we have to go back to the ministry!"
