Everyone always portrays hell as this pit of flames and torture. Well the torture part is right, but where I was there were no flames. Just two small rusty metal cages swinging over oblivion. Everything was black as obsidian and mind numbingly quiet. The cages were just too far away for the prisoners to touch, but just close enough for us to see and hear each other though words were always indistinguishable. It was a fate worse than death for me. Because the man in the other cage was my love, sebastian. Days, months, years melted together. Memories I formed the first day seem as if they happened years after I arrived or vice versa. And all I can recall when I was alive is when I died and memories that would and did torment me. In the darkness there was Sebastian, me, and the teasing voice of an unknown demon.
"Just remember how you were when you finally found him, and now look at you." the cold voice mocked cloaked in shadows."He's so close but you'll never be able to touch him. And look he's calling out to you but you'll never be able to comfort him." the voice laughed before fading away leaving in near silence broken only by sebastian's whimpers.
"I'm sorry seb. this is all my fault." I murmured. "I should've been paying attention."The instant the words left my lips I regretted them. The copper bars of the cage melted away and the endless sea of darkness shifted to the inside of a truck going a bit too fast down a mountain road. The gravel crunched beneath the wheels of sebastian's ancient mud caked white pick-up.
"I can't believe her!" Sebastian half screamed half groaned from the passenger seat breaking the silence we'd had since leaving his mother's house. "love thy neighbor my ass!" He smacked his hand against the dashboard. I began to open my mouth to try to comfort him, but he spoke before I could.
"How on earth could she tell her own son he's going to hell?!" His head turned toward me. His amber eyes filling with tears.
"It's okay Seb. She doesn't know what she's talking about. And if we do I'll love you even in hell." I moved my gaze to look at him. Sebastian's usually calm black hair was now a mess from running his hands through it so many times at his mother's. A weak smile crept across his face. But his expression quickly morphed into one of pure terror.
"Jake, look out!"Sebastian screamed pointing frantically at windsheild. My gaze snapped back to the road. The truck had moved to the right lane closest to the side of the mountain when I wasn't paying attention , and a black SUV wa speeding toward us horn blaring.
"fuck!" Rapidly I spun the wheel trying to get out of the SUV's path. the car jerked out of the way into the empty left lane, then into the guard rail.
