Midway through your shift, you finally gathered the courage to approach Eleanor. The thought of her potential response made your heart race, but you knew that if you didn't seize this moment, you'd regret it forever. Finding your way through the office, you felt a wave of nervousness wash over you as you neared her desk. It was too late to turn back now. Eleanor was facing away from you, her attention seemingly absorbed in her work. You took a deep breath and waited a moment, ensuring she wasn't too busy.

"Hey, Eleanor, right?" you asked, hoping to elicit a warm response.

Eleanor turned around, her expression cool and her eyes narrowed just slightly. "Yeah, what do you want?" she replied, her tone sharp but not entirely dismissive.

"I'm Y/N. I work over there in the sales department," you said, offering a small smile. "I just wanted to introduce myself since we haven't had the chance to meet yet."

Eleanor nodded, her gaze unwavering. "Okay. Nice to meet you," she said, her tone still guarded. Before you could continue, your coworker Tom approached, interrupting you and Eleanor's conversation.

"Hey, Eleanor, do you have a minute to go over these reports?"

Both you and Eleanor exchanged a fleeting glance, a silent agreement passing between you. "Actually, Tom, we're in the middle of something," you both said in unison. You gazed at Eleanor, smiling as she chuckled softly, the two of you locking eyes. Her smile was captivating, and as it faded, you glanced at Tom, who looked between the two of you with a puzzled expression before eventually shrugging and walking away. The shared experience seemed to dissolve the initial tension, and you both chuckled softly.

"That was... something," Eleanor said, her tone softening slightly.

"Yeah, it was," you agreed, feeling the tension ease. "If you ever need anything or just want to chat, I'm always around," you offered, still amused by the spontaneous moment.

Eleanor looked at you thoughtfully, her eyes searching yours. "Yeah, okay, I will," she replied with a smile.

As you turned to leave, she stopped you with, "Wait. Can I ask you something?"

You turned back, trying to contain your excitement at her sudden interest. "Mhm," you replied, eager to hear what she had to say.

"Why did you decide to come talk to me? I mean, I've been so distant since I got here. People probably think I'm a total bitch."

Feeling a blend of nerves and boldness, you met her gaze directly, and before you could second guess your response, you said, "Honestly? I thought you were cute."

Eleanor's eyes widened in surprise, but a genuine smile spread across her face. She tilted her head down, letting out a soft chuckle. "Well, thank you. I appreciate your honesty," she said warmly.

As you both stood there, the connection between you seemed to deepen, and you couldn't shake the feeling that this was the beginning of something special. With a smile on your face, you walked away, excited about the positive turn of events and hopeful that you'd have the chance to spend more time with Eleanor.
