As Anahata walked away from the mysterious shop, the weight of the Devil's charm clung to her mind like a stubborn fog. Her steps, usually light, felt labored, as though the invisible thread pulling her back was growing taut with every stride. The charm's whisper lingered in her thoughts—What if happiness could be this simple?—a tantalizing promise that gnawed at the corners of her resolve. But deep down, she knew that true happiness couldn't be found in shortcuts or illusions. Still, the idea that all her struggles could vanish with one decision stirred something dangerous inside her.

She shook her head, trying to free herself from the spell of temptation, but the unease wouldn't let her go. Needing clarity, she reached for her Tarot deck, the well-worn cards familiar in her hands, their edges softened by countless readings. She shuffled them slowly, as if coaxing answers from the universe, her mind swimming with the questions she was too afraid to voice.

When she finally pulled a card, the breath caught in her throat.

Death.

Her heart skipped a beat. A familiar chill raced down her spine as she stared at the stark image before her. The skeletal rider loomed on the white horse, its bony hands clutching a black banner adorned with the symbol of the white rose—life and death intertwined. The card's meaning was clear: transformation, endings, letting go of the old. But it was the end of what, exactly? What was she being asked to release?

A flood of memories rushed to her. She recalled a querent from years ago, a man who had been terrified upon seeing the Death card in his reading. She had explained to him, "The Death card may seem scary or frightening, but its message for you today is simply that major change is on the way. Something in your life is ending, but in its place, something new and fresh is being seeded. The end of a project, a friendship, a phase of life, a job, or a relationship is bittersweet at best, even if the change is fundamentally a good one—so you can expect to feel some sadness today. It's OK to be sentimental about what is being left behind, but remember to live in the present and to keep your eyes on the future. Where one thing ends in your life, something beautiful can take its place. Don't fear the changes which lie ahead."

She had felt so certain, so calm while offering him that advice, reassuring him that "the card denotes an impending change. Something in your life will change, but it will be replaced with something fresh...and surprising." But now, facing that same card, it was harder to believe her own words.

Her throat tightened. Is this about Aniket? Her ex's name echoed in her mind like a bell tolling from a distant past, and suddenly, she was back in the heart of that dark place—where betrayal, heartbreak, and grief had swallowed her whole. Her hands trembled as she clutched the card. She had spent so long burying the pain, trying to patch over the cracks in her heart, yet here it was, demanding to be acknowledged.

Her thoughts raced, each question cutting deeper than the last. Am I flexible enough to let go of what's dying? The idea filled her with dread. A pit formed in her stomach as she realized she had been holding on—holding on to the love she thought she deserved, the life she had planned, and the person she had molded herself into for him. Letting go wasn't just about losing Aniket; it was about losing the version of herself that had existed because of him.

Tears welled up in her eyes. Can I be brave enough to embrace the new without hesitation? The thought terrified her. What if she failed at being this new version of herself? What if she wasn't ready to leave the pain behind? What if the unknown was lonelier than the grief she had grown so accustomed to?

She could feel the card's cold message pressing against her chest: let go, or be consumed. The figure of Death was relentless, not cruel but final. The skeletal rider didn't care about her fears or her grief. It only demanded one thing—surrender.
