Dawn.
The sun had only just risen.
Breeze's Sky Elements were gathered around the Royal Palace, which was now only a pile of rubble and stones. The Sky Kingdom held their kittlings, food and supplies, fear glistening in their eyes. After all, no one knew what they were heading into. After all, they'd lost two dragoncats: General Current and one unnamed female, which after Wing's wiseness, discovered it was Smoke, the mother of Zephyr, who was now adopted by Orbit and Zodiac. No one knew what happened to Zephyr's father, yet he kept repeating: "Father and mother. Mother and father. Heaven."
Dragoncats mainly just ignored 'the annoying chatterbox parrot. Wing had replaced Current, and was now known as General Wing. Although nobody could celebrate.
As the fastest, Breeze and her kingdom had arrived first. On the horizon, she could see specks of red flashing. It was the Fire Realm. They had come, after all. A huge tidal wave crashed onto the shore of the Royal Palace. Water Elements surged out, with Torrent in the lead and Stingray at her heels.
There was no sign of Earth Elements, until they burst up from the ground, a metre away from Breeze's nose.
"We're all here." Torrent announced as Volcano landed. "It's time we say goodbye to our home. Then we head for the unknown. We Water Elements will swim, you will all fly."
Murmurs spread across the gathered dragoncats. Droplets of water fell from the sky, as if reflecting Spencer's mood.
"Goodbye, mother, father. I hope you rest well. I will forever remember you."
"Farewell, my brave, fallen friend. I will carry your memory."
"Spencer, you took my father, Scald. I forgive you, but I must leave."
The last voice belonged to General Droplet, the daughter of Scald. Having her father taken by poison, and her mother killed by sharks, she'd been promoted to general by Torrent, in hope to distract the death of her mother.
It worked, for a while.
Not after Scald died.
Bowing her head, Droplet trotted back to her old adopted mother, Stingray. She hid under the general's wing, suddenly looking as if she was five, not twenty-six.
Rain battered at the dragoncats. Clouds covered the sky. Lightning rumbled, flash after flash. It was time to go, before another natural disaster struck. Grey mist weaved through the dragoncats, sending shivers up their spines.
"Let's go. Now." Torrent ordered.
Pivoting her ears, Breeze caught a slight current of air. Jumping into it, she titled her wings. The vast ocean spread out beneath her. Hundreds upon thousands of wingbeats followed. The splashes of water signified the Water Elements had dipped below the ocean.
Wing flew especially close to Breeze, casting uneasy glances at the other Elements.
"It's alright. I'm fine." Breeze reassured Wing. Dipping her head respectfully, Wing flew to the back of the travelling mob, chattering with Orbit, Zodiac, Starfall, Celestial and Zephyr.
Looking to her left, Breeze located Ember, with Phoenix and Ivory nested on his back. Volcano flapped close to him, Dove and Cranberry sleeping peacefully near the edge of Volcano's neck.
