"Luce, harder! C'mon, if you want to get that spot, you're going to have to beat up someone much stronger than his silly little ass," I took the moment as Brendan shot Logan a glare to slide my leg low beneath his, dropping the man back to the ground,"there we go; very nice!"

"It's not silly and it's not little,'' Brendan sulked as we trudged back up the hill through crunching leaves and snapping twigs to the guard house.

"Aww we know, you're butt is perfect BrenBren,'' I teased the kid. He had entirely too many emotions for my taste.

"Don't you know it, you'd better get a piece of it before we turn next week!" and with that snide remark he suffered a devastating blow to the shoulder. A moment later the final hit was made, a kick to the side and he was down, "Aggh! Aggh! I give! I give!"

After training, the guys and I started our way back up the hill towards our pack house. The enormous building loomed before me in an intimidating manor. My parents had been refugees from a pack war that had found a safe haven here. Never really having a true place among the ranks, we'd lived in a guest cabin on the far side of the hill. Only once I made it into the Pack Guard would I be given a room w/in those walls.

''You're so gonna kill on Friday,'' Brendan finally admitted, rubbing the back of his sore neck as we reached the very top of the incline.

''There's still so much room for error,'' I mumbled quietly, letting my true feelings out was something I did very sparingly and only in front of these two.

''Oh please, they'll never know what hit them!" Logan chimed in, wrapping his arm around my shoulders playfully.

I smiled at this last piece. They'll know it was me.

My moment of imagining my future glory was interrupted by a pair of SUV'S pulling into the car park next to our pack garage. The guys and I pulled up short as a flurry of doors opening and men in pack guard fatigues caught the majority of the pack's attention.

Three guards crowded around a side door of one of the vehicles and the last door left to open finally swung free. From the seat emerged a girl my age, but this girl was an absolute goddess in every sense of the word. Her beautiful golden blonde locks cascaded to the small of her back and shimmered in the day's waning sunlight.

"Damn, what I wouldn't give to have Ana Caldwell as my mate," Brendan's voice snapped me out of the trance I seemed to have fallen into.

"C'mon Baxter, you know the Alpha's daughter's completely out of your league," Logan said quietly but I had a feeling he was talking to himself more than Brendan. In our younger years he and Ana had dated for awhile. They seemed pretty perfect for each other. She was kind of shy around me and the guys but he had really loved her.

As other Alphas began to bring their sons to introduce Ana to possible suitors, Ana's father decided it would be best if she remained eligible, with all her focus on a possible pack alliance.

There had been one time when we were just out of eighth grade, hanging out at Logan's parents. The guys had run off to play with water balloons in the pool and I'd broken my arm the previous day forcing me to sit out so the bone would reset correctly as it healed. She was afraid of the water so it was her and me on the padio.

"Luce, can I tell you something?" She'd asked carefully.

"Sure, what's up?" I was laying out on a long chair, my eyes watching Hayden Daniels and Logan gang up on Travis Holdt. What they didn't realize was that Brendan was sneaking behind them with a pair of water guns.
