Braids

Their girlfriend's fingers caressed their now shorter hair. Oh Lord, their fingers were so gentle and each pass felt so soft.

Though, it was hard to concentrate on that when the pain was so sharp and so painful. It felt as though someone took a lighter and set their heart on fire.

"Love?"

They looked up, their girlfriend's bright eyes were full of worry. She placed her hand on their cheek as she kissed their forehead.

"Is there something wrong, hun?" They asked. Surely they weren't that bad at hiding their emotions. Right?

"Are you okay, you've been off since this morning after we went walking." She asked.

She moved to the side as her lover sat down next to her on the bed. They sighed. None of them said anything for a good while. All that could be heard was the AC motor.

"Why are you still with me?" They had finally asked. Their voice was shaky, it sounded as though they were scared, no doubtful.

The light brunette chuckled.

They watched their girlfriend laugh. Oh god, she was perfect. She was beautiful, so cute, everything they have ever wanted in their life.

She tucked a loose hair behind their ear as she placed herself in front of them.

"Why do you think that?"  She asked as she cupped their freckled cheek.

They snuggled into her hand. Oh how it felt good against their warm skin.

"The people in that park... They were judging us.." They whispered as they looked to the side.

She frowned.

"Who cares what they say or think? They don't have brains."

"But what if they're right! You're way too good for me! And you know that. I'm so ugly compared to you."

She smiled once more before placing a quick kiss on their forehead.

"Onyx, I love you because you're you. I don't care for your looks, nor what people say. Those things they said are in the past now, now let's look towards the future." She said as she fiddled with their bracelet.

"But-"

"Shhh" she cut off. "Everything about you is perfect. Your eyes, your smile, your humor, your laugh, the way you mess around. The way you love to ramble about your hyper fixations, you know how much I love reading those texts from you? You drive me insane Onyx." She smiled.

They swore right then and there they were going to pass out. Their face felt so warm. They were probably, no they were as red as a tomato.

She laughed.

"I love you onyx," she sighed as she wiped away the remaining tears.

" I love you too." They smiled.

"Can I continue braiding your hair?"

They looked at her in bewilderment before touching the top of their head and feeling small bumps.

"Sure..." They whispered.
