"Nickel...?" Baseball stared at his best friend on the floor, or rather, what was left of him. He was terrified when he saw the life drain out of OJ, but seeing someone he was so close to meet the same fate hurt a lot worse.
He didn't even know if hurt was the right word.
Shock?
Surprise?
Numb? That could work.He didn't feel much of anything, his brain felt like static.
He gently grabbed Nickel's body with his mouth, dropping him onto the bed. What normally would be a place of comfort for them turned into nothing. Nothing but a hollow shell.
Baseball pushed his friend aside, getting on the bed with him. There was no movement. Normally Nickel would gently kick him, telling him to stop suffocating him.
Nickel stayed still.
Baseball was in an out-of-body experience, helplessly clueless on how he could help the coin. He just needs to relax. Baseball could feel his heart start to race, his breathing became heavier, this didn't feel real.
"Nickel... Can you tell me to calm down, or something? I'm just really freaking out for no reason." His voice sounded nervous and shaky, he didn't want to believe this.
Baseball was in a panicked state, refusing to believe what was in front of him. The ball looked down at Nickel, sweating. it made no sense. They were just talking and he stopped, What happened? Did he see something I missed? I don't understand.
"Nickel.. please. this isn't funny anymore. you can stop pranking me now.." The ball spoke, each passing second filling him with dread." He placed a foot onto Nickel attempting to shake him awake. He was sitting up at this point. "Wake up. Nickel. Nickel, wake up." The shaking became desperate.
"Nickel. Nickel, please! I don't understand..!" Baseball felt overwhelmed, he couldn't understand what he was feeling, all he could hear was a high-pitched ringing. "Nickel, please, what's happening?! Please, I... I don't understand! I don't know what to do, please!"
Tears flooded his eyes, he was just starting to get better, he and Nickel were working so hard to better themselves, he was working on being more friendly and positive. Now he was nothing but an empty husk.
Baseball attempted to quiet himself, but his body was in fight or flight mode. He could barely form a sentence, his throat was closing and his vision was blurry.
Large drops of his tears landed on Nickel, a part of him wished that with the power of friendship or love, he would come back and the two could calm one another, but the other part knew.
Nickel is dead.
Nickel is dead, he's not coming back.
He paused and stared at the body. Baseball got off the bed, he tried his best to place Nickel under his sheets gently. It looked like he was sleeping.
Baseball knew the coin wasn't asleep. He looked back, seeing his friend motionless. it seemed so unreal, a nightmare.
He was numb, his body was practically moving on its own. However. The ball knew he couldn't stay here, every step feeling heavier than the last. But he knew something needed to be done.
He didn't know what that would be, but he was going to take Nickel's advice to heart.
