Arjun's heart pounded in his chest as Meera stepped closer, her once-soft voice now laced with menace. The lights in his apartment flickered erratically, casting ominous shadows on the walls. He could barely think, but one thing was clear—Meera was not the woman he thought she was.

"You have to make a choice, Arjun," she whispered. "Survive with me, or be consumed like the others."

His mind flashed back to the journal. The names. The sacrifices. The city had demanded them, and Meera had played its twisted game for far too long. He felt trapped in a nightmare, but somewhere deep within him, a spark of defiance flickered. He wasn't going to let this city devour him too.

Arjun stepped back, creating distance between them. "What if I don't want to play this game anymore? What if we both walk away?"

Meera's gaze softened, and for a brief moment, the desperation returned to her eyes. "You don't understand. I tried to walk away once, but the city—it's always watching, always waiting. It doesn't let you leave, Arjun. Not without a price."

His mind raced. He had to think fast, to find a way out. If the city was alive, as Meera believed, if it fed on fear and despair, then perhaps its power came from their submission. What if fighting back was the only way to survive?

"Listen to me," Arjun said, trying to steady his voice. "Maybe we can outsmart it. Maybe we don't need to sacrifice anyone. We can break free together."

Meera's eyes widened, as if the idea had never crossed her mind. "How?" she asked, her voice barely audible.

"The city takes from those who give it power. If we stop feeding it with fear and instead challenge it—maybe we can weaken it. But we have to be united."

A long silence followed. Meera's face was a mix of hope and doubt, and Arjun knew he had to convince her. "You said people disappear, right? They vanish because they think there's no escape. But what if we confront it? What if we refuse to let it control us?"

Meera looked torn, but then she nodded, a glimmer of belief shining through her doubt. "Okay. But we'll need to do something drastic. We have to go back to where it all started—back to the sea."
