Monotony

"Everyone talks about death is always so peaceful, and that everything will be better in the end. Yet, no one likes to talk about the painful middle that we all are stuck living in. Much of the time, it is the same monotonous day after day. Nothing ever changes, we keep repeating the same routine day in and day out.

"Lately, King Richard has ruled the days in the country of Wysteria. He had come in, claiming to be the previous Queen's bastard son. There were no other legitimate claims to the throne, so it came as no surprise when he rose to power.

"Everyone loves to discuss this situation, but there is not much that we could have done when it first happened twenty years ago. And now, there is still nothing that we can do now that his son is coming into power. We will go to the inauguration and smile and listen to the speeches they have prepared."

Numerous groans and cries had filled the air surrounding the professor, but there was nothing she could do other than follow her script. She waved her paper around in front of our faces as she continued.

"There will be a feast, for the small-town leaders and their families. Though, I do doubt that will include any of us. Other than Aleesia and her twin, Ajita." The whole class turned to look at my sister before looking down at the floor.

"Great, the witches get special treatment again!"

"Careful, or they are going to witch us." Sarcasm dripping from their voices.

"Yeah, especially, Ajita. I heard that when she is not interested in talking to you anymore, she can wave her hand, and it will sew your mouth shut."

The whispers continued, which caused my sister to clear her throat. Her ruby lips pulled back in a snarl, showing off her perfect teeth. "If you would like an example of what we will do to you, keep talking." The clink of her teeth was audible as she snapped her mouth shut.

The whispers quieted as she flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder and looked at our professor. "Please, continue. However, you should be much more careful with how you speak as well. We have the king's ear. And well, riffraff like you just is not what we want in our city."

The instructor gave an audible swallow before looking down at her papers and nodding. "Yes Miss Aleesia, you are correct. You and your sister will have the honor of dining with our future king and you both will have the chance to grab his attention."

Rolling my eyes, I grabbed my bag and stood up. "I have had quite enough of listening to this. It is not hard to see that Lee is going to be the one that is going to get Kgosi's attention."

As I went to leave, the instructor sidestepped blocking my path. I looked down at her shoes, just to confirm my suspicions, and then back up to her eyes. "What do you think that you are doing" I paused before smiling widely "My mother owns you. Therefore, you are not to block my path.

"Also, it means that I have the right to do as I see fit with you. So, please do as my sister says and watch what you say and do."

A gentle tug pulled me away from the intruder in my way. I quickly turned to come face to face with my other half. "Calm down, and sit down A.J. We must listen just like everyone else. We will get ready tonight and have a long chat with the new king about the disrespect of this group."

Shaking my head, I let my twin guide me back to my seat. "Whatever, I guess I will listen to this. But I still think that she," I nod my head to the red-haired bimbo, "needs to learn what happens when she thinks she is in charge of us."

I listened to the following footsteps as my sister kept between the two of us. "You always were so easy to anger A.J. It will be okay, just go sit down. Mother will deal with her, just like the others. Liam needs to do a better job at servicing you if you are not relaxing more."

A throat clearing drew our attention, reminding us that we were not alone. "Excuse me, but I do believe that I am serving her fine. She screams my name nightly." The cruel laugh of the neighboring leader's child followed the comment. I had to force my wince to stay inside, so I did not offend anyone. However, if this child thinks that the cries from the previous nights were anything but fake...well then, he was sorely mistaken. My taste was a little more -- feminine.

The hint did not reach my sister though as she pushed me towards him. "Then get to it soon. She has been like this for far too long." She nodded as I forced myself to sit down on Liam's lap and stare forward. His wandering hands quickly tried to get beneath my blouse.

Aleesia had walked back to her group of friends and ignored as this beastly man tried to grope and touch me in ways that made me want to cry out. I bit down on my lip, to keep from telling him exactly what I thought of his mini-me, emphasis on mini. And instead focused back on the professor.

"The final item for this topic, is this. We all owe the King our love and respect." Snort. "Long live King Richard, and his son Prince Kgosi. Our future leader."

I could not keep from the eyerolls as the teacher droned on, the sunlight streaming through the windows highlighting the dust motes dancing in the air. The classroom was stifling, the air thick with the scent of old parchment and stagnant knowledge.

"The king's rule is absolute," the teacher said, her voice dripping with reverence. "We owe him our loyalty and respect." My gaze drifted to my sister, Aleesia, who was braiding her hair with a look of serene disinterest. Our classmates whispered and cast nervous glances their way, their fear and awe palpable.

"And so, we must all support our future leader, Prince Kgosi." My lips curled into a silent snort. Long live the king, indeed.

The rustling paper signaled the end of the ass kissing speech we were all forced to sit through. "Alright. Now that we have finished that. You all have your assignments from last Friday. You have until the end of class to finish them. Aleesia, your group has informed me that you have already finished yours. Find something productive to do in class today."

I watched as the bitch turned to look my way, but I waved my hand, and she shook her head but walked away. Our mother forbade us from using magic in class, but that had never stopped the rumors. Everyone knew we were twins born under the Full Moon on the 13th of October. Which also happened to be a Friday. It also did not help that our mother was the King's sorceress and mistress.

So, our classmates and everyone else around were terrified of us and our power. The only ones that were not, were the ones that thought they could control us. They were mistaken, but they would have to wait until we were fully trained to make that discovery.
