Chapter 1
-The Beginning of a Hero
Eric stirs in his sleep, hearing his alarm, and attempts to bat it away to stop the sharp ringing of it. "Alright, Alright... 'M up 'M UP!" Eric finally turns it off, yawning loudly, and brushes his long jet black hair from his face as he gets out of his bed. "Getting too big for it" Eric thinks, annoyed to have to get up so early. "Why do schools force us to get up so early... there's no need for it." He stifles a second yawn and walks out his bedroom door, not noticing the small blue flame quietly giggling outside his window.
"Eric! Hurry up!" His mother calls, brushing at her hair as she grabs his lunch and pushes it into his pack as Eric rushes to her, in a long green hunting jacket, gray t-shirt, and black jeans. Eric slings his backpack on and rushes out the door, "Later Mom!" He jumped the short staircase and rushed away.
"Why am I still stuck here, I wish I could ditch all of this" Eric sighs, wishing he didn't need to go to school, he was always bullied for being different, always trying to wear his hunting jacket, despite it getting a bit small for him, and for never sitting still. Eric didn't REALLY know how to fight, but he could do some damage when he was in a fight, of which he had more experience than he'd care to admit to his mom. What most kids didn't know (nor did the bullies ever really care) was this jacket was his dad's, who he had no clue who he was, his mom never did explain who he was. "Most likely because there isn't anything to tell, probably as boring as my life" Eric thinks, as he watches the other kids on the bus chatter and be as restless as caged dogs.
"Hey punk." Suddenly Eric is slammed face first into the locker as a voice growls behind him. "Oh great, Jonah!" Eric turns around to see a large blonde kid, as tall as him (which is saying something as it was another thing he was bullied for), wearing a beanie, and smiling maliciously. "So punk, thought you'd get away from your beatdown today?" Jonah smiles, knowing that as he has learned to fight and is burly due to his football team status, he would win.
"No way Jonah," Eric snarls. "I'm gonna kick you into next week." "Just what I needed... a reminder of our fight after school..." Eric turns and walks off, just for Jonah to get a cheap shot in, sending Eric to the ground, his head making a sharp crack against the tile floor, the surrounding students gasp in horror as his head bleeds, and he stands very shakily, blood dripping into his eyes just enough to sting and make him close one so as to stop that flow, his jacket stained from the drops. "What the heck?! Least you could've done was wait, Jonah!" his head pounding, Eric's hands ball into fists. Jonah sneers wickedly, "Didn't feel like waiting, moron. Now let's get started, the final bell isn't for another hour."
Jonah swings at Eric who dodges lithely, anger flooding him as he suddenly feels a drop in the pit of his stomach, seeing red, he roars his fury and sweeps Jonah's legs, grabs him by the head and slams him into the ground, Jonah cries out in pain as the crack is heard, but no blood is spilled. "They said you couldn't fight, Evans." Jonah groans in pain. "Who said that?!" Eric is bewildered, did some bigger kid send Jonah after him?! Jonah meekly points behind everyone, down the hall, at what seems to be a blue flickering light speeding off.
