The air was cold and the moon shined bright throughout the night sky. Gorgia rose walked home after she had finished her chess tournament practice at the local chess club, she was a regular visitor who didn't play to many games and certainly didn't win to many as well, she wanted to become a grand master, far fetched as it may seem she didn't let others nor her low self esteem weigh her down.

Her fingers hurt terrible but that would to be expect after packing match sticks at the delmund matchsticks factory.

The match girls they were called, nothing really special about it just a name they went by, or rather were called.

usually she would have gotten home earlier not to spite her mother.

But today was different today she had played one to many all so late, her mother worked late night shifts at the saint micheal hospital as an under paid undervalued nurse who only made a minimum wage.

Nothing special in her life, certainly no fancy possessions or recognizable thropies just an average poor girl living in london. She inserted her key into the noob and after a few twists and turns the door had refused to burge, she cursed then tried again only to be met with the same response. Rose took out the key and inserted it again, now with her shoulder placed against the door she gave it a shove as the key turned.

The door flung open forcing her to balance on one leg, maybe that much force was not needed.

Rose heard a distant barking in the living room, "rusty" she said bending down and pulling the hairy creature into a warm embrace as she patted and rubbed his hair. At the kitchen the light kept flickering, she slammed lightly on the wall which usually stops  it, she tries again with a louder thud then the lights kept on but dimmed down moments after staying steady.

The pots were empty as usual and a note sticked to the fridge, " Gat to take another shift to cover up the bills this month, eat dinner and don't wait on me, lover josephine." Like there was anything to eat, she murmured.

She cleaned the burnt cigarettes of the couch, took out the trash and did the dishes, the skills she lacked at chess she made up for doing chores, they were left over cabbages and raw meat left in the fridge, she picked a plate and while stepping back slipped crashing hard onto the ground, a loud thud followed by a groan, the plate  had broken and pierced her hand badly.

There was a crack in the roof that leaked water that had been stored over the curse of a few rainy days.

"Shit!" She cursed quickly packing up the broken pieces and she cared more for the plate than her injured hand, adding it to the trash she left her hand under the running sink and the water cool the wound a bit of mixed pain and relief cursing her body.

She swept her hand under the couch until she found a hole, putting her  hand inside she pulled out a few hundred dollars, money she had been saving to go to a good chess school. Of late Josephine's drinking and smoking habits had gone of rails, she never hit her though, God forbid all she did was curse and say how much of a disappointment she was and how she regretted conceiving her.

Just all beer talk, if anything she cared to much and her not being here was evident of that.

She folded the money and fisted it into her skirt pocket giving one more pat on the lil' mutts head she turned of the lights and went to buy noodles and cheese, maybe bread as well, the stall one without any taste, 'yeah thats the one' she thought' as she made her way through the dark london streets.

Pitch black only being able to see an arms length into the darkness. The walk was long and her feet already started to hurt but she was hungry and rusty was hungry, bumping into a man she had not even seen coming, her body met the ground again."sorry" the man murmured then carried on about his business.
