Hi, my name is George, and I am a little nervous to be here. This is my first time in therapy for myself, normally I am just used to being passed around to be paying for the sessions. I guess I can start out with getting the awkward part out of the way... I am a dollar bill.
I can still remember being a fresh bill printed, and being so excited to see my brothers. Each one of us is ready to be thrown into the world to make a difference.
the number one on each of my corners. They made me feel so confident that I have a purpose in this life! Do you know what possibilities one has when they are number one?
It came to my surprise though that all the other bills started laughing. They treated me like I was worthless and a nobody.
I remember Abe saying "You simply are single and though many of you have worth together apart in afraid not."
"It would take a hundred of you just to compare to my greatness" chimed in Benjamin who has always been the intelligent ones in our group.
I understand that they have so much to feel confident and proud about. People become so excited just in their presence, but one can be a very lonely song. I believe they actually made a song about that by Filter.
Unfortunately so many of my fellow George's quickly lost hope. They allowed the other bills to lose their faith. One was terrified they were going to be ripped in half, and another was concerned they were going to end up in a woman's underwear. From things we have all heard they seemed to be valid points.
My heart was broken watching them all panicking and losing faith. They didn't deserve to be torn down like this! They haven't even had a chance to experience the big world out there! That's when it finally hit me, though I knew my words would come as cruel as theirs were towards us.
"Look, look! We are worth a hundred pennies and that must say something!" I yelled out to the other Georges and they all looked at me searching for some kind of hope to hold onto.
See people finding a single penny good luck which means we must be lucky 100 fold. There has to be hope, there has to be meaning, and even if it means we all have to band together to make an impact
Saying this all the bills grew silent, and I think they were trying to process it. We are number one for a reason, and like the great president George Washington said...
"Happiness depends more upon the internal frame of a person's own mind than the externals in the world."
I'm going to explore this world! Despite what the other Georges, Abes, Andrews, Thomas and all my brothers say I am going to prove that I can be worth more and that we truly are number one.
