Our little Secret

Fire. Beautiful, graceful, magestic, dancing flames. Once the gorgeous flames rained from the skies covering everything in crystal fire.

But that was very long ago, about the 1400's. It's now 2013, and nobody remembers that day. Well, nobody except me and my friend Lyric. Lyric Vega, 15 year old singer, song-writer, and big time blogger. Being 5'3" and extremly hyper she is the envy of most the girls at Westchester High, with her gorgeous long red curly hair, firey redish orange eyes, and ivory skin that would make any model jealous. I have no idea why Lyric would be friends with me, Darcy West, a 15 year old nobody who is a total book nerd, astronamy geek, and secretly sings. Being 5'2" and VERY skinny, I'm not particulariarily what people at Westchester call pretty. I have long wavy natural violet tinted blonde hair, ice blueish/bright leaf green eyes depending on the day, and I have very, very, very pale skin. Also I have very defined cheek bones, which alot of girls would kill for, and I'm very boney and skinny. Some people used to think I was anorexic, but I'm not. And to top off my weird apperence I have a large birth mark covering my right arm. But it's not your typical birthmark, nooo cause that would make me somewhat normal. Of course this thing has to look like a freaking alien tattoo. On my right wrist it starts out looking like flames, but the flame's tips give way to something that resembals lotus petals, and the petals turn into something resembling cheetah print leading all the way up and sorounding my shoulder blade and clavicle getting smaller as it spanned over to my heart. No, it isn't a tattoo just a very odd and large birthmark. I never wear anything but long sleeves and i never go swimming because of it. Lyric thought it was cool and thought I should show it off, well, she wasn't bullied for being different. This would just be the icing on the cake for the stupid morons at that "elite" High school.

Pulling my purple long sleeve shirt over my head I avoided looking into the mirror. Ever since I was ten years old I have tried to not look in mirrors because i never liked what I saw. I put on my converse shoes and straightened my skinny jeans. Sitting on my bed next to Nova, our sibearian husky, I petted her soft fur.

She licked the scars on my wrist from when I'd cut myself many years ago. Yes I have tried to kill myself before. I gave up when my little sister Felicitie had fallen ill and needed the pills i was overdoesing on, plus she needed me to take care of her when my mother was gone. When I was seven my father walked out on us, saying he needed to find himself , and hasn't come back since. Because of him my mom had resoted to alchohal and drugs to drown her sorrows. Everynight there was a different man in our house, and my mother would beat me because she was so drunk. I had ket her because I didn't want her to hurt Felicitie. Thankfully my mother quit both of those things a few years ago and got a job or we'd be homeless.

I used to have a brother. His name was Tommy. After my father left and mom started resorting to drugs and alchohal, he killed himself. He crashed his car into a semi on purpose that was carrying heavy pipes and one of the pipes onto his car instanly killing him.

If it wasn't for Lyric I don't know what I would've done to myself. She has been my friend since I was nine years old.Our friendship started when she stood up fo rme when a girl called me a freak cause she saw my birth mark.

"Knock knock!" I looked up at my door to see Lyric standing in the doorway.

    "Hey.." I muttered smiling.

She smile back and walked to wards my bed, "Felicitie let me in. She seems alot better then the last time I saw her."She cjirped petting Novaand plopping down on my bed.

"The medication has beenhelping." I pointed out starring out my window.

"Find out anything else on the whole crystal fire fiasco?" Lyric askedlooking at my desk covered in notes, quotes, and pictures.

I sighed, "No not really..Just the same as always. The crystal fire only came once, scientists gave up researching this topic, and The day of the crystal fire was the most prosperous day in hystory."

She nodded picking at the hem of her midnight blue dress, with one sleeve over her shoulder. She tapped her stilleto clad feet on my grey carpet. She sudenly jumped up and pulled me to my feet,"Come on! We're going to the mall so you can getyour mind off this secret of the crystal fire." I groan unhappily,"Oh come on! It'll be fun!"

She dragged me out of my room, stopped to say good-bye to Felicitie, and knocked on my Mother's bedroom door, My mom opened it smiling,"Yes Lyric?"

"I'm going to take Darcy to the mall for some sunlight and shopping. Is that okay Mamma West?" Lyric asked and my mom nodded,"Thanks!"

She pushed me into her red convertable and drove to Westchester Plaza; Westchester's biggest mall. "Do I have to go out in public?" I whined slidding farther down in my seat.

"Yes you do! You need a new wardobe!" Lyric exclaimed pushing me into the mall. I stumbledforward and reluctanly followed her ito Memorex; A store with really cool clothes andaccessories.

Lyric shoved a really pretty dress at me and I went into the dressing room. In Westchester, the more the merrier. Everybody dresses in wacky fashions. this dress had a tight strapless top and poofed out with monarch butterfly wings on the bottom and wrapped around the top portion. It had some poof and stopped just above my knees. The shoes she picked out for me were some sleek black pumps. It didn't look that bad except for my stupid birthmark. I stepped out and and Lyric jumped up and down giddily,"You look amazing Darce!"

I raised my eyebrow and turned to the full body mirror. Not bad, still ugly and abnormal with the birthmark. The lady at the counter walked over and put an old looking key on a chain around my neck as Lyric was looking for more clothes. The key had intricate  twists and knots on the top, the sttem part looked like branches twisted togather, and had three little nubs sticking out. In the middl eof the worn down iron top of the key was a jewl that looked like crystal fire."Beautiful."I breathed fingering the old iron key.

"Yours. It's special, and now as a gift it's yours. Never take it off." The lady said smiling and trailing her finger along my birthmark.

"Thank you." I said not being able to tear my eyes from the old key around my neck.

"Oh you are SO welcome!" Lyric Squealed starring at my dress. I looked around for the old woman but she was gone,"Come on, I'll pay for the dress! Go get changed." She shooed me back into the dressing room. Who the heck was that woman?!?!
