A sigh came out of my mouth as I watched a young she-cat affectionately speak to the long furred gray tom I was interested in. My (e/c) eyes followed their movement, a slight ping of annoyance prickling my fur.
I had been holding a crush on the tom ever since I had met him and was welcomed into this band of rogues. All he ever seemed interested in now was this clan cat. I felt my claws dig into the dirt as I stood up, deciding to leave the camp to get fresh air. As I started to trot to leave the camp, I heard my name being called.
"(L/N)!" My heart fluttered for a moment as you looked over my shoulder staring at the tom.
"Yes, Rain?" biting back the annoyance that fought to express itself.
"Where are you going?" He questioned, walking up to you, leaving the she cat behind.
"To hunt." Your response was blunt. How you wished this would just end. Now, what he seemed to be interested in is I'd you were breaking Darktail's rules or not.
"Did Darktail give you permission?" Rain question worry dripping in his voice.
You would have laughed hearing his worried toned. However, you bit it back. It's funny how he now worries.
"I did give them permission." A deep voice rung with a purr, edging it as Darktail made his appearance. He walked up, staring between the two of you. "I was actually planning to join them." His eyes now rested solely on you as he spoke, sending shivers down your shine.
You blinked speechless, unsure of how to respond. Your leader had just come to your rescue from being questioned by your crush. You nervously met Darktail's eyes wary of what he was planning before looking to your paws. The feeling of eyes on you made you uncomfortable.
"Is there a problem, Rain?" Darktail's voice spoke from next to your ear.
"No." Rain almost growled, sounding wary himself.
You were still lost on how you hadn't noticed Darktail at your side, especially with how warm and oddly comforting his pelt was against your own.
"Shall we go, (L/n)?"
You nodded, avoiding eye contact with Rain barely looking at your leader. You blinked, realising Darktail wanted you to take the lead, and so you did nervously out of the camp and away from sight. So many thoughts flooded your brain as you went. Why did he step? What does Darktail want?
"You didn't want to hunt, did you?" His voice startled you out of your thoughts.
Who'd he know?
"What?" Was all that you could mutter out as you stop slowly turning to look at the tom.
"Too easy to read, (L/n)" He purred, closing the gap.
Thoughts ran through your mind. How? He doesn't usually care. What's different? Then you remembered all of the interactions you've had with him and even the distant glares he gave Rain. It now all made sense
Pulled from your thoughts by the cat in front of you, putting his muzzle to your cheek. Your eyes widened in shock. You didn't know how to react to seeing him act in such a way.
"You have a soft spot for me?" The words came out unsure, questioning even yourself.
Darktail grinned as a deep purr rumbled in his throat.
"What gave it away?" He mused."Come on, let's hunt unless you just wanted to go on a stroll." He walked past you, tail held high.
You were at a complete loss for words but caught up to him quickly walking next to the confident tom. His tail swayed, now almost entwined with yours, his pelt rubbing against your own. Unsure, you welcomed it, even melting into his warmth. The silence was nice, and his company was oddly nice.
