They were gone...

The boat was gone...

Their last chance of getting out of this hell was gone.

Mitch was dead.

And Tiff?

She left them to die here.

Darius and Brooklynn stood in silence at the edge of the dock, looking into the distance where some time ago they could still see hope. But now it's gone. They were so close...

But at the end of the day, all of their efforts were for nothing.

As always.

It's not like they weren't used to it, but it still hurts.

Darius quickly gazed at his side to look at the girl. She seemed to be too... devastated to even say anything. And he gets it, really. He was too.

...

Who could've guess that silence could be so fucking overwhelming.

Brooklynn sat at the edge of the dock, her feet were dangling above the water surface. It seemed that she accepted their fate.

Obviously she did. What else could she do?

Darius stood there for a moment longer but finally dropped to the ground, sitting next to the pink-haired girl. With a small whimper, he put his head in his hands, trying to hide himself from Brooklynn's gaze. He let his mind wander.

Congrats, Darius. You failed them. Once again.

What a surprise.

Are you ever actually going to get them out of here as you promised?

He should stop making promises which he couldn't keep.

She decided to ignore his trying to hide himself from the world, and she put her hand on top of his shoulder, trying to comfort him just a little bit. "Hey, we're going to find another way out of here. I'm sure of it." She said.

He didn't know if she wanted to ressurect him or herself more. Because if it meant to make him feel better, it didn't work at all. When she noticed the lack of reaction from Darius, she frowned but decided to take her hand away. She again looked at the water in the distance. Her face softened again. "Look, I know it sucks that we weren't fast enough to stop her, but look at the bright side! Camp Fam is whole together again. Aren't you excited to see Ben?" She gave him a small smile, but it seemed that he didn't even notice. He looked in the distance too, but not in the same way as Brooklynn did. He just seemed to be suddenly... out of there. As if his mind was in a totally different place. And it worried her. Especially the way his eyes twitched when she mentioned his 'dead' friend.

"Just... Try not to overthink this, Darius. It's not your fault."

And he still didn't respond.

Brooklynn gave up and the silence between them returned.

And now they couldn't really do anything else than wait until the others get there. And waiting meant that they got a moment to rest. To just... Stop.
