When I was little I had no idea what being part of a Mafia family meant. I thought it was just some cool thing that would never really involve me...
Boy was I wrong...
Speeding though the streets of Seoul at night is always fun. It always took my mind off of things and tonight is no different. My peripheral vision picked up the bright lights from restaurants, clubs, bars, karaoke places and other establishments flying by in a blur. Tall skyscrapers in all their glory littering the cityscape always reminded me to challenge the stereotypes. Do the unthinkable, what everyone least expects.
I came to a stop slowly, finding myself in a familiar alley. Usually this is where my nights ended, the same dark alley, same alley cats watching me cover the wall with spray painted graffiti. Night after night, week after week, before I knew it I was coming here every night for months. The cats had kittens, the kittens grew up. They wandered off, come back to have their own kittens. They learned to trust me. I wish everyone could.
The sound of an empty can falling to the ground made me snap back to reality.
"Who's there?" I ask into the back of the dark, seemingly empty alleyway. After a few moments of tense silence, a little mew was heard and a small kitten stepped out from the shadows. I let go of the breath I'd been holding. "Oh, it's just you," I sighed dropping my guard and stooping down the the small animal's level. The kitten mewed again, coming a bit closer. I laid flat on my stomach stretched out my hand for the small cat to inspect. A few cautious sniffs later, the kitten rubbed her head against my palm purring in the process. "See, I'm not that scary," I spoke to the tiny creature, moving my hand slowly to scratch under her chin. "You're a cute one aren't you?" I watched her waddle closer to my face, eventually placing her nose on my cheek making me laugh softly. I scooted back into a sitting position and scooped her up in my hands gently. Holding her up to get a good view of her I discovered her pretty, soft blue eyes. Her fur coat seemed to be in good condition. It was mainly white, but her paws, the tip of her tail, ears and muzzle(mouth area) were the same soft taupe color. (#b9a281 for visual) "You're not an alley cat..." My face scrunched in confusion. "You're a Rag Doll kitten. You should be in someone's house not on the street." I watched as she rolled around in my cupped hands purring. "I'll take care of you, don't worry."
I stood up, walking over to my bike. Unzipping my backpack's main compartment, I rummaged around eventually finding the sweatshirt I knew I had packed. "Here, you can have a nice fluffy pillow for the ride home." The kitten mewed again as I gently placed her inside the bag. I looked around again, uneasy from the feeling of being watched. Although I didn't see anyone, I strapped my knife to my leg for if I did end up needing it. "Let's go home." I whisper to my new buddy while still peering into the darkness of the alley.
In favor of leaving the alley as quickly as possible, I waited till I got to a red light to put my helmet on.
After a few minutes we arrived back home. Rolling up to the gate, I hopped off my bike and gently took my backpack off. I peered into the bag, bright eyes peering back at me followed by a small meow reassured me my new friend was ok. "You have to be quiet now, ok?" I whispered to the small animal. Her head titled to the side before she curled up in a small ball. I smiled then zipped up the bag, leaving a small bit open to make sure she had fresh air. I opened the gate and parked my bike before entering the lion's den.
"Where were you?" My father's voice boomed as soon as the front door shut. He wasn't yelling on purpose, he was at the top of the staircase and the echo is horrible in here.
"I went out riding my bike." I responded making my way up the stairs. "I didn't miss my lesson right?"
"Almost. Your mother is waiting for you in the training room." My dad offered a smile which I returned.
"'kay. I'll be down there in less than five minutes." I called out behind me as I started jogging towards my room.
I closed my door with my foot and walked straight over to my closet, pulling out a nice fluffy blanket. I pulled my backpack off my shoulders as I made my way over to my bed. "How was your ride? Five stars?" I asked the small cat as I pulled her out of the dark bag. She gave my hand a small lick and purred as she discovered the soft, warm blanket. "I'll be back soon, okay? Don't cause any trouble." I pointed a finger at her before running back to my closet for a change of clothes.
"Sorry I'm late Mom!" I ran into the training room. I looked around confused. The lights were off and there wasn't a single sound. My body tensed and I started slowly making my way around the room checking to make sure everything was in order.
As I neared the last corner of the room, my eye caught movement. I turned around just in time to block the knife coming straight at my face. Fists came flying next, each one blocked perfectly as I was slowly pushed backwards. Soon my back was flush against the padded wall. A left hook came flying towards me. I moved just in time for the fist to smack into the wall. I swapped from defense to offense. I threw a right uppercut, landing the blow on my attacker's ribcage, making them stumble back. A final kick sent them tumbling to the ground.
I pounced on top of the person, unsheathing my knife and holding it to their throat. "Who are you?" I asked, trying to sound intimidating. It is surprisingly hard to do that when you're out of breath, but what's done is done.
The mask was pulled off revealing my mother's familiar smile. "Good job," she praised me.
I gave her an unbelieving look. "Why would you scare me like that!" I stood up putting my knife back where it belonged.
"Whenever you get sent out for dangerous missions or you are the one calling the shots, there are going to be situations like these." She stretched her arm out for me to pull her up by. "You have to be quick, collected, and careful."
The lights flicked on. I turned to find my dad clapping in the doorway. "I'll admit, I wasn't expecting you to be this prepared."
"You were in on it too?!"
"Of course I was," he made his way over to my mom giving her a peck on the cheek. "You can't trust anyone, no matter how well you think you know them."
I pushed down the feeling to vomit instead rolling my eyes. "I'm going to bed."
"I have some case files I would like you to look at!" My mom called out from behind me. "I'll have someone take them upstairs for you!"
I gave her a thumbs up over my shoulder as I made my way back upstairs to my bedroom. The door clicked shut behind me and I slid down the smooth surface, resting my head on my knees. A small meow reminded me I now had a little friend to care for. The rag doll kitten made her way over and I gave her chin a scratch before standing back up. "I'll get changed and find you some food ok?"
Cold water from the shower head rolled down my body soothing the sore, tense muscles from tonight's events. "I need to name her." I spoke softly to myself. I turned the water off and climbed out, drying off then putting my pajamas on. Mom would probably scold me for not dying my hair, but I didn't really care. I scooped the kitten off of the floor and took her down to the kitchen. I pulled some milk out of the fridge and poured some in a bowl. I also pocketed some snacks for myself before retreating to my room. "Here you go. I don't know if this'll do you any good, but I'll get you some actual cat food tomorrow morning ok?" I put the bowl down on my desk placing the small cat down next to it. "Files... yay." I commented sarcastically. I squinted wondering if I read the words correctly. "Bodyguard...?"

Ok we need to name this cat lol. I don't have any ideas, all I know is I want it to be along similar lines to Soonie, Doonie and Dori, but I don't want it to be exact of any of those names. Whoever comes up with a name I like will get a shoutout next chapter <3
See ya next time!!
