Kylie's POV
The frat house was a whirlwind of colors and sounds, a sea of bodies moving in sync with the music that blasted from the speakers. The energy was electric, and as I staggered through the crowd, the warm buzz of alcohol made everything feel like it was in a perpetual state of fun. Ruby, ever the cautious friend, was keeping a close eye on me, which I found both reassuring and slightly annoying.
- Hey, Kylie. - Ruby said, her voice cutting through the noise. - I think you should maybe slow down a bit.
I waved off her concern with a dismissive gesture, taking another gulp from my drink.
- No way, Ruby! I'm just getting started! Let's go say hi to Malia and her friends.
Ruby sighed but followed me as I weaved through the crowd, my excitement barely contained. I spotted Malia across the room, standing with two girls. They were chatting and laughing, their faces lit up by the flickering party lights. Malia looked a little out of place but was clearly trying to enjoy herself. That's when I made my move.
- Hey, Malia! - I called out, my voice a bit louder than intended. - I wanted to officially introduce you to my best friend, Ruby!
- Oh, hi, Kylie! Hi, Ruby! - Malia's face brightened as she saw me approach.
- Hi, Malia. It's nice to meet you formally. - Ruby gave a friendly wave, stepping closer.
Morgan and Dior turned to us, their expressions welcoming.
- Hey, Ruby, Kylie. - Morgan greeted with a smile. - Glad you could make it.
- Nice to meet you both. - Dior added, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. - Kylie, seem pretty excited about this party.
- Yeah, it's been interesting so far. - I leaned in closer, the music vibrating through my chest. - Malia, I see you don't have a drink, may I grab you one?
Malia smiled, though there was a hint of shyness.
- Oh, yeah. No thanks. I don't drink. - Malia replied quietly. Such a rule follower.
- That's okay. - I said dropping the matter. I look at Malia's friends. - Hey, did you know Malia and I are working on a project together?
We did, actually. - Dior said. - She told us earlier.
- Let me tell you, Malia's been amazing. It's been so much fun. - I slurred my words a little.
- Thanks, Kylie. It's been good working with you too. - Malia's cheeks turned a light pink, and she gave a small laugh.
- You two seem to be hitting it off. It's always nice to see friends getting along. - Morgan raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued.
Dior exchanged a knowing glance with Ruby, both of them clearly picking up on the chemistry.
- Yeah, it's great when people click like that. - Dior said with a playful smile.
- Malia's been talking about you, Kylie. - Morgan says with a grin.
- Oh, has she? - Ruby grinned. - Well, I'm sure she's been telling you nothing but good things.
- She has. - Morgan says and Malia hits her arm slightly.
- Damn, that's scary, what have you been saying, huh? - I said, teasing Malia a little.
Just then, Ruby put a gentle but firm hand on my arm.
- Alright, Kylie, let's get some water. You're starting to look like you've had a bit too much.
I pouted, trying to hold onto the last bit of my party buzz.
