Mum turned off the radio as we see the military blocked off the road with one of the thousands of checkpoints. " Shit! Maybe checkpoint 4 is open. They have to open it for survivors! " I see people rushing past cars running on feet on the outside wall. We begin going back towards the wall and I see a pair of headlights rushing towards us. " DAD WATCH OUT!" I scream and I feel a huge impact hit on the side of the Pickup. I feel a huge pang in my head from the impact as I look to see Mum with her head gashed open and Dad with her crying into her shoulder with a glass shard in his neck. "D..addy?" He twists his head more quickly than I imagined and I saw his eyes all bloody and a giant bite mark on his cheek leading to his neck. " Mack. Ple.. ase . run.. Babygirl run. " I look at him with sad eyes. " Daddy please come please!" I begin to cry out as I begin to pull his jacket. He takes it off and puts it on me " Theres a man on the outside of the car.. " He nods and puts his arm down " Jump " I do as he commands and jumps into his arms as he holds me bridal style. I couldn't save your dad but I saved you. " He continued running and saw the mall on fire ahead of us and he saw a woman with a baby running towards us. " I got a baby, The mother was getting bit and she was holding the baby so I asked her and took the baby. We need to get to Checkpoint 9 its better and 12 Minutes away! Military has it cleared and I have rations!" He nods and looks down at me. "This is Dakota, She will help you as well okay, darling? I nod and close my eyes as he holds onto me tightly. " If we go though this allyway we can go to 9 quicker. " She nods quickly and tightens her grip on the baby and opens the door seeing a few runners coming down the street. " Hurry! Now!" He sprints in and she rushes in just before the runners make it down the side street and we run towards the corridor that the military has the trucks blocking off shooting at the runners. " Don't move a inch!" One of the military men points his gun towards the man carrying me. " Non of us are bitten. We have a wounded. She was in a wreck 4 minutes from here! We also have 2 ration cards we will offer if one of you takes us too Checkpoint 9." The commander jumps down from his truck and looks down at me. " You keep your ration, they're hard to get. Military doesnt need them. I will take you guys to Millard, the Doctor in Checkpoint 9 and I'm sure he can find you all a spot." The man smiles at me and looks at Dakota, " The children should not be out lets go. " He jogs over towards one of the Green Jeeps and gets into the Drivers seat unlocking the doors for us. " Mackenzie, You'll be okay. I won't let anyone hurt you. " I nod and Dakota jumps in the seats beside us and The commander drives towards what I assume is Checkpoint 9. It all seems too slow as I close my eyes and drift out to sleep.
